Maharaja Boat Ride, Varanasi
Varanasi, or Benaras, (also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest cities in the world. It holds a prominent place in the Hindu mythology as well and is considered the microcosm of Hinduism itself. Within this city’s limits is the Ramnagar Fort which is located near the Ganges River on its eastern shore, opposite the Tulsi Ghat. The structure is constructed in typical Mughal style of architecture and has been the residence of the royal family of Varanasi since the eighteenth century.
The guided Maharaja Boat ride lasts for 4-5 hours and you have the option of going for it either in the morning or evening. The start time for the ride is 8 am in the summers and anytime between 8:30 am and 3 pm in the winters. If the summers are too intense, the trip can be undertaken in a cab. The excursion would get going from Assi Ghat and takes you to the Ramnagar Palace across the river by boat. Apart from getting to see the palace from inside, you would be going on a short walk in the markets around the fort area. There is also an ancient 200 year old Durga Temple nearby which is included in the outing. You would be returning to the Assi Ghat once the tour concludes.
