It was formerly known as the Parish Church of Sheffield, and was granted a formal Cathedral status in the year 1914. However, the history of this structure dates back to more than 1000 years. It is in the Sheffield Cathedral where you can learn a lot about the Christian faith in this region, whilst also finding out why it is an important place of worship in the region.

The Sheffield Cathedral is also a great place to learn about the story of the city, right from the early 12th century, when the first church was built on this same site by William de Lovetot, to the refurbished and renovated building where the cathedral stands today. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul, and is built in the late Gothic Perpendicular style of architecture, with the choir and tower being a part of the original parish church that stood here in the 1100s
