About Kelham Island Museum

Dating back to 1982, when it first opened its doors to visitors, the Kelham Island Museum is one of the best places in the city to gain insights about the rich industrial history of Sheffield. In addition to being home to displays of steel and silverware from 300 years ago, the museum is also the abode of many objects, pictures as well as archive material that help you learn about the city’s past.

From interactive galleries that tell the story of the city’s development, to witnessing skilled craftsmen at work in the Little Mesters Workshop, and even seeing the River Don Steam Engine from 1905, there is a lot that you can enjoy seeing at the Kelham Island Museum. It is here where you can learn what it was to live and work in the city during the Industrial Revolution, whilst also learning how Sheffield grew to what it is during the Victorian Era.
