Castelvecchio Museum exhibits an extensive collection of historical artefacts ranging from mediaeval to renaissance to modern times. It houses in the Castelvecchio fortress, a mediaeval castle from the fourteenth century that houses the museum, is a noteworthy location in and of itself. Carlo Scarpa renovated Castelvecchio in 1957, and today it is a museum with a striking art gallery showing paintings, most of which are from the surrounding region. Additionally, there are collections of early Christian art and Roman sculptures and paintings, including works by Pisanello like Madonna of the Quail and a magnificent Romanesque equestrian statue of Cangrande I della Scala.

The Castelvecchio Museum contains artefacts in 29 exhibition halls, including paintings, sculptures, weaponry, coins, medals, drawings, prints, photographic plates, bronzes, decorative furniture, and home décor items. It exhibits works by Andrea Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Tintoretto, Rubens and others, making it one of the most interesting things to see in Verona.
