Oxford Botanic Gardens And Arboretum Overview

The Oxford Botanic Garden was founded in 1621 and it is the oldest surviving Botanic Garden in Britain. The Botanic Garden was formerly known as Physick or Physic Garden and had a collection of medical plants. Now, the southwest corner of the Oxford Botanic Garden is home to a collection of modern medical plants.

The Garden wall of Oxford Botanic Gardens was completed in 1633. The foundations of the wall are almost as deep as the wall is high and the wall is made from local limestones extracted from Headington’s quarries. The experts from Gardens travel across the globe to find rare trees, collect seeds, grow them in the Arboretum and make sure that the species survive outside their native habitats.

Oxford Botanic Gardens and the Arboretum’s mission is to communicate the importance of plants and how our future depends on the plants through its living collections to the widest possible audience. They aim to make the glasshouses the central delivery of this mission without investing in physical infrastructure in the following decades. The glasshouses will act as a hub to spread this message from School children to the public through the tropical ecosystem in the center of Oxford. It is the best oxford place to visit.
