Know Before You Go
- A valid passport with at least 6 months’ validity is required for both Israel and Jordan; visas or pre-arranged entry permits may apply depending on nationality. Carry copies of travel documents and keep your original passport secure, as checks at borders and hotels are common in both destinations.
- Local currencies are the Israeli Shekel (ILS) and Jordanian Dinar (JOD), but credit/debit cards are widely accepted in major cities in both countries. ATMs are common, but always carry small amounts of cash for local markets, small eateries, or tips.
- Summers are hot and dry in both destinations, while winters can be cool with rain, especially in higher regions. Pack light, breathable clothing plus a jacket for evenings.
- Both countries have religious and traditional sites—modest dress is advised (covered shoulders and knees) when visiting them.
- Both destinations offer incredible Middle Eastern cuisine; always check if food is halal/kosher if dietary preferences apply. Tap water is safe to drink in Israel but not recommended in Jordan—bottled water is best in both.
- Respect religious customs in both destinations—avoid loud behavior at holy sites, and always ask before taking photos of locals.
- Fridays and Saturdays are rest days in Israel, while Fridays are prayer days and Sundays are the start of the work week in Jordan.
