Originally founded to foster young minds and promote Catholicism, it evolved into one of the region's premier institutions for boys. Over time, the building has undergone several renovations to accommodate expanding needs, culminating in its current form. Today, visitors can explore its storied past while marveling at its architectural evolution. With the steady growth of the school and its infrastructure, it became necessary to move the education center to somewhere else in a better suited location. This is why during the 1980s the old school building was vacated. Due to the significant contributions by the Christian brothers in uplifting the education system of Singapore at the time, this building was declared as one of the National monuments in 1992. The restored building for Contemporary art was opened on 20th January 1996 for the public.
