Thrillophilia’s Breezy Bike Tour: Motoring KTM 390 Adventure in Ladakh

An Asian Proverb states, “It is better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times.” Ladakh is popularly known as ‘the cradle of adventures’. It offers endless possibilities of experiencing adventure in various forms.

Hence, Thrillophilia has launched a refreshing biking experience in the land of high passes. Now people can tour the terrain on a KTM 390 Adventure bike, which will be a fresh change from the usual Bullet experience.

Since the cases of coronavirus have declined sharply over the last few months in India; travelers are moving out to explore different destinations. Ladakh has gained immense popularity among the millennials in the post-pandemic times. It is catering to the taste of the new generation and this is exactly why our KTM 390 Adventure Tours are becoming immensely popular. New crowd, new rules!

The best time for biking in Ladakh is between June and October. At Thrillophilia, we are experts at curating experiential travel, our biking trail covers all of the best off-road tracks, mountain streams, and river crossing experiences. Here’s all you need to know about the tour –

1. Peregrination – The Tour Plan

The outdoor experts of Thrillophilia have designed the Ladakh Bike Tour as one of the most challenging and difficult adventure tours. One of the prerequisites of planning a road trip is to select a suitable bike that will not give up on you in the middle of nowhere. And hence, we opt for a KTM 390 ADV that is recognized for its off-road performance.

The 2300-kms long arduous tour, stretched over two weeks, strides through Chandigarh- Manali- Jispa- Sarchu- Leh- Nubra- Pangong Tso- Tso Moriri- Sarchu- Manali- Chandigarh. This ride would make you steer through a heterogeneous topography. Ranging from hills, dry riverbeds, gravel, mud, sand dunes, to forest and river crossings that make this ride quite exhilarating. This multi-day trip has so much to offer that apart from the rip-roaring riding experience, there are pre-tour mentorship sessions, adventure training, and camping, and much more.

2. The Commencement

Day One begins with an ice-breaking and briefing session by several experts who share their experiences and anecdotes with the other riders. The next day, the convoy of riders steers into the Himalayas riding along the River Beas. They are led by Thrillophilia’s outdoor experts and KTM trainers for safety and assistance. The way to Manali presents a spectacular view of the lap of mountains on either side, making it a sight to behold.

However, the real adventure sets in from the next day of this tour, when you steer to higher altitudes via the 9-kms long Atal Tunnel. The horseshoe-shaped tunnel is an engineering genius and the longest highway tunnel in the world.

3. The Breakthrough

The next stop Jispa is a beautiful quaint village in Lahaul, known for its scenic beauty. The enormous mountains, remarkable green valleys, and pristine blue skies are sure to take you by surprise. The convoy of riders would halt at Jispa for the night before heading further. Additionally, the Shingo-La pass route can also be taken to sense the dread of water crossing on a motorbike. If absolute adventure is your thing, try your hands at this!

While heading ahead to Sarchu, you would ride across the coldest and extreme terrains. Sarchu has extreme weather conditions and so it is important to keep yourself well hydrated and fit. The way up from Sarchu to Leh on the following day is long (about 250 kms). You will ride through the popular Gata loops with 20-odd hairpin bends. This route is quite scenic and you would find several instagrammable spots on it. On reaching Leh, you get a chance to stroll through their marketplaces (spot the popular Tibetan Handicrafts, Pashmina shawls, and silver and stone jewelry), taste the local cuisine (like thukpa, khambir, momos, and tigmo), and witness the authentic culture to make this journey more special.

Journeying ahead to Nubra Valley, the riders would cross Khardung La, the highest motorable terrain. This experience is sure to quench your adrenaline rush but it is equally important to follow the instructions of the trainers and ride cautiously. Further, you would ride along the beautiful Shyok River where you can stop by and capture the beauty of the surroundings. You can attend a training session at The Adventure Academy, Nubra Valley for a high-altitude off-road experience. En route Nubra, the convoy would stall at the Siachen Base Camp where they also get a chance to hoist the Indian Flag (subject to permission from the Indian Army). This is a unique experience and a proud-worthy moment for every Indian national.

4. The Final Phase

The next day, ride to the higher altitude of over 14000-feet to spot the popular Pangong Tso Lake. Halt here for tonight at the camps near the Lake. Experience Thrillophilia’s one-of-its-kind stay at the camp here under the starry sky and breezy land of Pangong. Finally, the route up from Pangong Tso to Tso Moriri is full of challenges. The terrain in this area is quite demanding as you would be required to cross sandy deserts, rocky paths, and mountain streams. Some of the areas are completely off-roads but KTM 390 Adventure is said to perform successfully in such terrains. At Tso Moriri Lake, you have reached an altitude of over 15000 feet and the journey ahead would take you back to Chandigarh via Sarchu and Manali.

Recently a client Vikram Kapoor shared his views on undertaking the Ladakh Bike Tour with us, he states: “I would like to give credit to the Thrillophilia team for curating this Ladakh exp for us on KTM. This was my first time riding on a KTM & especially in a region like Ladakh, it made the journey more thrilling for me to be honest.”

As it is rightly said, a journey full of challenges and hardships makes you stronger. One would certainly realize this after undertaking this expedition. A trip to Ladakh is nothing less than a life-altering experience. This ecstatic combination of the KTM 390 Adventure bikes and exigent terrains of the Himalayas make it one of the best routes in India for a road trip. It is the journey that is more important than the destination and so this arduous tour is bound to make you reflect on your inner-self. So join us today and let the adventure begin!
