About the Brahmatal Lake Trek:

Another jewel of the Himalayas that is untouched by trekkers around the world is the Brahmatal Trek, which is devoted to Lord Brahma. It is beautifully positioned amidst the Himalayas and covered with blankets of snow. The trail allows you to see the centuries-old forest of oak and rhododendron. Walking in meadows besides Brahamatal Ridge, you can see many sites of the Roopkund Trek. A glance at the Garhwal Mountains in the distance on a clear day will totally melt your heart.

How to reach Dehradun:

There are several routes to reach the base camp of the Brahmatal Trek in Lohajung, majorly from Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Kathgodam. The trek starts and ends at Lohajung, covering around 22 kilometres.

  • By Air: The nearest International airport to Lohajung is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. Our Brahmatal trek itinerary begins from here, taking you to the base camp in Lohajung. Dehradun is easily accessible from all major parts of India by flight, and from here you need to avail of transport by road which would cover a distance of around 293 kilometres within approximately 8.5 hours. 
  • By Train: The nearest railway station is the Dehradun junction, which is well connected to major cities from all over India.
  • By Road: One can reach the base camp at Lohajung by road from Rishikesh, Kathgodam, and Dehradun as well. It takes around 7.5 hours to cover the distance of 255 kilometres from Rishikesh, while it takes around 7 hours to cover the distance of 215 kilometres from Kathgodam.

Brahmatal Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Dehradun to Lohajung

Trekking Distance: 0 km.

Your trip starts with the driver picking you up from the railway station or bus stand and helping you transfer from Dehradun to Lohajung. You will be traveling for 9 hours to reach Lohajung for an overnight stay in the guest house.

Transfer in Bolero, Tempo Traveller or similar

The driver will pick you up from the railway station or bus stand and will help you transfer from Dehradun to Lohajung for an overnight stay.

Day 2
Lohajung to Bekaltal

Trekking Distance: 8 km.

After having your breakfast, commence the trek to Bekaltal through the forests of oaks and firs, and let your eyes enjoy some awe-inspiring views of Nandaghunti Peak. Conclude the 4-5-hour trek after you reach Bekaltal for an overnight stay in a tent.

Activity: Tranquil Journey to Bekaltal

Begin your trek towards the Bekaltal.

Start your trail with a gradual ascent through forested paths, relishing the pure mountain air and nature's sounds.

Traverse through scenic meadows and small streams, observing colorful avian life and wildlife.

Reach the serene and captivating Bekaltal Lake, an enchanting spot, ideally by late afternoon.

Day 3
Bekaltal to Brahmatal

Trekking Distance: 7 km.

Start the day with breakfast before proceeding to Brahmatal Base Camp. The trail leads through stunning forests and open meadows, offering glimpses of snow-capped mountains. The trek duration is around 5–6 hours. Set up camp for an overnight stay.

Commence trekking toward Brahmatal Base Camp after breakfast.

Hike through enchanting forests and vast meadows, enjoying panoramic mountain views.

Settle at the Brahmatal Base Camp after a 5- to 6-hour trek, reveling in the serene mountain environment.

Day 4
Brahmatal to Brahmatal high point and back

Trekking Distance: 8 km.

Post-breakfast, conquer Brahmatal! Trek for 3 hours to the summit, soaking in the Himalayan grandeur. Breathe in epic snow-capped vistas from the top. Descend and snuggle into your tent for a starry night under the peaks.

Commence trekking towards Brahmatal High Point after breakfast.

Tread along the tricky pathways that go through Chota Jhandidar and Bada Jhandidar.

A mountain ridge with valleys on both sides encircles this trail.

From the top, you can revel in the exotic views of the snow-covered Himalayan Ranges.

Enjoy the scenic beauty and the sounds of nature as you make your way down to Daldum for an overnight stay.

Day 5
Brahmatal to Lohajung

Trekking Distance: 15 km.

Right after breakfast, you'll trek back from Brahmatal to Lohajung, following the same route taken earlier. Upon arrival in Lohajung, settle into your guest house and unwind after the day's trek.

Activity: Descend to Lohajung's Embrace

Begin the descent from Brahmatal towards Lohajung, tracing a downhill path.

Start the journey with a gentle decline through the forested routes, savoring the mountainous breeze and the tranquil sounds of nature.

Traverse across scenic pathways, passing through lush meadows and serene streams, while encountering diverse birdlife and wildlife.

Reach the guest house at Lohajung, marking the conclusion of the downhill trek. Upon arrival, check in and take a well-deserved rest.

Day 6
Lohajung to Dehradun
  • Conclude the trek and depart to Kathgodam early morning.
  • After your arrival at Kathgodam, the Brahmatal trek package comes to an end.
  • But, you can plan how to spend the day fruitfully on your own, be it sightseeing or shopping, Dehradun will not disappoint you.

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.

  • The trek takes place through eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites.

  • Though medical facilities are available at every campsite, participants are suggested to carry their own medication (if any)

No bill will be reimbursed for any missed service/facility.
  • During a trip, in case the roads are blocked due to landslides or a reason that is beyond control, Thrillophilia will rearrange the itinerary for the travellers real-time, however, the cost of alternative accommodation will be borne by the customer as the hotels pre-booked execute their cancellation policies and are nonrefundable.
  • Because of any reason natural or personal, if the Trek or a particular activity is not completed, no refund will be processed.
  • The difference in the cost shall be borne by the client in case of any amendment in the package due to change in the number of guests, hotel change, itinerary change, etc.
  • If in case any traveller wants to or decides to leave the trip in the middle, all the expenses from that point onwards will be borne by the traveller. Neither the operator nor Thrillophilia will be held responsible for such decisions or for any refund.
  • The refund or compensation is also not issued if for any reason you have to come down from the trek. The trek leader may send you down from the trek, owing to reasons like lack of fitness, AMS, blood pressure, turn-around-time, health issues, or if you are found smoking/ drinking, or breaking the rules of the trek. refund or compensation are issued only when the whole trek is cancelled or called off on behalf of Thrillophilia.
  • At Thrillophilia, we almost never call off or cancel our treks. But in the rare event we might have to call off or cancel a trek due to any unforeseen natural catastrophes like continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity or other issues like local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any such situations that might prevent a safe trekking experience. In such cases, Thrillophilia will issue a Credit note summing up to the same amount as your trek fee that can be redeemed on any of the treks over a period of the next year.
