Hesaraghatta Lake Overview

This man-made freshwater lake sits across the Arkavathy River in the northwest of Bangalore city. Sprawled over an area of over 1000 acres, Hesaraghatta lake is one of the major suppliers of fresh water to the city. 

The vast expanse of the lake is  thronged with flocks of birds, some of the commonly found bird species are Flowerpecker, Brahminy Kite, Mayna, Paddy Field pipit, Pond Heron, Kingfisher, Magpie Robin, Bushlarks, Cormorants, Black Drongo, Brahminy Kite Juvenile, Black Kites, Egret, Black Crow, Pale Billed etc. 

The 35 KM long stretch of cycling trail is loved by the cyclists in the city who often take an interval at Nrityagram and then move further to reach Hesaraghatta lake. 

People planning to tour the lake can avail paddling and motor boats from the coast. Along with boating, birders can also watch a plethora of birds and can capture them in their camera lenses.

Best Time to Visit: Post monsoon.

Price: Entry is free.

Timings: open 24 hours.  Sunset and sunrise are the best hours to be around the lake.
