Jarawa Reserve Forest Overview

The Jarawa Reserve Forest, located in the Andaman Islands of India, is a sanctuary of unparalleled biodiversity and cultural significance.

Spanning approximately 1,028 square kilometers, this dense tropical rainforest serves as the habitat for the indigenous Jarawa tribe, one of the few remaining hunter-gatherer communities in the world. Rich in flora and fauna, the forest shelters a plethora of endemic species including the Andaman wild pig, saltwater crocodiles, and various avian species. Protected under Indian law, access to the reserve is strictly regulated to preserve both the delicate ecosystem and the traditional way of life of the Jarawa people.
