Langkawi In City

Popularly known by its title as the ‘Jewel of Kedah’, Langkawi is a 99-island archipelago located some 30 kilometers off the Malaysian coast. Nestled just along the Thai border, the origins of this sea-fed island dates back to the 14th century in recordings, and is closely associated with the Kedah Sultanate.

The beauty of Langkawi city derives equally from its natural charms as it does from its bustling metropolitan landscape. On one hand, the city’s allure yields to the azure Andaman sea and rolling cliffs that border it on all sides; on the other hand, the twinkling light’s of the emerging cityscape keeps the Langkawi night alive.

To no surprise, Langkawi’s natural attractions form the city’s biggest assets. Gunung Raya, the tallest peak in Langkawi, attracts tourists both for its hiking trails and it's beautiful panoramic views of the city. The island is also home to a number of splendid waterfalls, some of which are closely related to the mythical legends of Langkawi. In addition to these, the smaller islands in the vicinity, such as Pulau Bokor Pulau Payar, can serve as great excursions from Langkawi as well. 

Despite its small size, Langkawi is always bustling with activity. The beaches around the island are well known for their beachside clubs, eateries and watersports, and cannot be missed while on a visit. Being a duty-free archipelago, Langkawi is also widely popular for its inexpensive shopping experience, both at its multi storey shopping center and local night markets. The Langkawi Cable Car Ride is another popular tourist experience here, and is well regarded for its excellent views. 

The weather in Langkawi remains warm and humid throughout the year, with very little variation across seasons. In fact, seasons in Langkawi are generally divided into two distinct categories- wet and dry. The dry season, which receives comparatively less showers, lasts between November and March.
