Grand Baie Mauritius Overview
Grand Baie (Grand Bay) is a coastal village which is well known for its white sandy beaches and emerald sea. Resting in the natural cove in Mauritius, it serves as an excellent bay for indulging in swimming, sailing and various other watersports. The bay had been earlier named as De Bogt Zonder Einde in the 17th century by the Dutch, meaning the “Bay without an end”.

Grand Baie is the most popular tourist destination of Mauritius owing to its mesmerising scenic beauty and it's bustling liveliness. The bay gets busy very early in the day being the point of departure for fishing expeditions and boat excursions to the northern islands such as Serpent Island, Gunners’ Quoin, etc.

During the day time there are several water activities on offer for tourists such as windsurfing, water skiing, snorkeling, kayaking etc. Several tourists prefer to enjoy the beach by going for a swim and sunbathing. While there are others who go on cycling expeditions through the town or indulge in shopping. The nightlife in this place is also full of life with nightclubs and bars running in full swing such as Zanzibar, Buddha Bar, Bana Bistro etc. Most parties start at midnight and continue till early in the morning.

How To Reach



Grand Baie is located in between the village of Pereybere (on the eastern side) and Trou aux Biches ( on the western side) and can be reached by road from the nearest Mauritius airport which is 47.8kms away. The journey by road takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. The capital city of Mauritius, Port Louis is 25kms away and takes 30 mins to reach Grand Baie by road. Also the town is well connected with key locations such as Great Gaube, Triolet in Mauritius by bus routes.

Best Time To Visit



Grand Baie Mauritius has comfortable weather round the year with moderately cold winter and warm summers. However the best time to visit this place is between May to November. During this time the weather is perfect for a holiday to enjoy the sun and swim in the calm blue sea.

It is also good for outdoor activities such as boating, snorkeling etc. There is a limited amount of rainfall at times making the weather even more pleasant. The summer months between December to March should be avoided as it is extremely hot.

2. Climate: Grand Baie has a mild tropical monsoon climate.The summer starts from November and becomes very hot from December. The summer season extends till April with temperatures ranging around 28 degrees during these months. The cool winter starts from June and extends till September. During this time the temperature remains around 24 degrees. The months of October and May are transition months with moderate temperature ranging between 25-26 degrees.
