Danu Batur Temple. Built in 1926, Ulun Danu Batur Temple is the second most
amazing temple complex of Bali, after the mother temple Besakih. The temple is
committed to Dewi Batari Ulun Danu, goddess of lakes and waterways.
Danu" actually interprets as “head of the lake”. Until 1926 Pura Ulun Danu
and the town of Batur were situated down in the caldera, at the foot of the
Batur fountain of liquid magma. After the fountain of liquid magma ejected
savagely in 1926, both the town and the sanctuary were demolished with the
exception of the most critical holy place, a 11-layered meru devoted to Dewi
Batari Ulun Danu.
Highlights: Pura Ulun Danu is a complex of nine unique
sanctuaries, containing altogether 285 altars and structures devoted to the
divine beings and goddesses of water, agribusiness, sacred springs,
workmanship, creates, and so forth.
