The first opened Butterfly Park in India, located in Hyderabad was established in 1988, which attracts about 36 species of butterflies. The park is solely dedicated to butterflies and which was first opened for visitors in 1998 after renovation.

Butterflies are highly sensitive to climate change and pollution levels. They are considered important bio-indicators of the state of the environment and they also play an important role in pollination. Telangana is home to more than 150 species of butterflies. Globally there are 17,000 different butterfly species, while India has a total of 1,500 butterfly species.

Spread over a five-acre plot in the zoo, Butterfly park in Hyderabad is planted with various plants that provide nectar to the butterflies as well as leaves on which the butterflies feed during their larval stages. The Hyderabad butterfly park presents an innumerable variety of butterflies that can be spotted throughout the year.

The park is situated in Zoo Park Main Rd, Kishan Bagh, Bahadurpura West, Hyderabad, Telangana. This place is easily accessible through public and private transport. If traveling by public transport, the best way is to travel by Hyderabad City Bus directly to Zoo or MMTS to the Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station, which is also known as the Nampally railway station. It is around 5 km away from the zoo park.
