Common Altitude related issues:

1. AMS: Acute Mountain Sickness or AMS refers to the condition where a person suffers constant uneasiness at an elevated altitude due to low air pressure and lack of required oxygen levels. Though human bodies can adjust to the diverse conditions with the required time in hand, there is a limit to everything. An altitude beyond 26,000 feet is called the death zone by the mountaineers as no one can acclimatize to this elevation.

The body starts reacting after it reaches a height of 7,000 feet above sea level. Chadar trek is at an elevation 11,400 feet hence your body reacts and finds it difficult to adapt to the extreme situations that come with such high altitude. Giving your body to get used to the temperature and altitude is very crucial in such case and especially if you dwell in a place that experiences hot climate.

The acclimatization process starts from the day you reach Ladakh. You must ensure that you’re in the five-layered clothing and also cover your face with a balaclava and ears with a beanie to let no cold air seep in. 3. Cough:

The dry and cold air of the mountains has tremendous effects on your bronchial tube including irritation and pain as you advance the altitude.
