How much trekking will cost in Ladakh?

Nestling in the paradise of Himalayas, Ladakh is amongst one of the most toured vast barren landscapes. Right from its rich cultural heritage to delicious food, Buddhist monasteries, and tourist attractions, Ladakh is loved for all.

With many places to visit, Ladakh homes to a myriad of adventure activities such as trekking, camping, camel safari, quad biking, rafting, and so on. There is n number of ways to explore the hidden beauty of Ladakh; but when it comes to coming one step closer to nature, trekking beats everything else.

Trekking cost varies as per the trekking spot, facilities, and available amenities in Ladakh. Let us take a look at some of them:

Chadar: Trekking at the Frozen River

In the month of falls, the Zanskar River transforms itself into a glittery white sheet of snow marking the commencement of the famous Chadar Trek. With an altitude of around 3850 m, trekking at this frozen river is a bit difficult for the beginners. Your Chadar Trek shall cost you around 21000 INR per head.

Best Season: Mid of January to end of February

Stok Kangri Trek

Reckoned as one of the most challenging treks of Ladakh, Stok Kangri trek won't cost anything above 21000 INR per head. This trek shall introduce you with the river valleys of Zanskar and Indus river systems. The altitude here is around 6000 m with again a challenging, difficult trekking level.

Best Season: Second half of July to the second half of September.

Snow Leopard Trek

A trek coupling adventurous activities with fascinating wildlife, Snow Leopard Trek accounts for an altitude of about 3000 m. While you trek here, you shall be passing through the Hemis National Park stretching to an area of about 600 sq.m. You have to pay a sum of 39000 INR per head to trek through this region.

Best Season: January to February

Markha Valley Trek

Alternatively known as the Tea-house Trek, Markha Valley trek offers trekkers an exciting opportunity to accommodate themselves in the parachute tents. Accounting for an altitude of about 3700 m, one of the most striking features of this trekking zone is the Kongmaru La Pass (5000 m altitude). Again, the trekking here accounts for a moderate to the mid difficulty level. Markha Valley Trek would cost you around 24000 INR per head.  

Best Season: The months from June to September accounts for the best season to trek in this zone.

Lamayuru to Chilling Trek

Starting at 17000 INR per head, Lamayuru to Chilling Trek is one of its kind treks of Ladakh. This trek offers you an opportunity to unveil both the cultural and spiritual aspect of villages and monasteries. Throughout your route, you can stop and meet the locals or capture some adoring views of Karakoram mountain ranges.

Best Season: Second half of June to end of September

Kashmir Great Lakes Trek

With an altitude of around 4206 m, Kashmir Great Lakes Trek costs you around 13500 INR per head. Opting for this trek shall allow you to have a glimpse of several magnificent lakes of Ladakh such as Vishansar, Satsar, Gadsa, and Gangabal Twin Lakes.

Best Season: Trek anytime between June to September.

These trekking costs are inclusive of your stays throughout your trekking tour. Also, you shall be receiving meals and breakfasts. Additionally, some of the treks do have a Wild Card Exit facility wherein you can opt out from your trekking activity at any point of time. As the altitudes are high enough, your trekking guide team shall be accompanying an oxygen cylinder to avoid any emergency situations if any. These trekking activities shall be organized in groups wherein you won't be allowed to carry any form of alcoholic beverages.

Also, your trekking manager shall ask you for your medical certification ahead of beginning with the trekking formalities and fees payment. Last moment cancellations shall be entertained at a nominal charge of 25% of the total trekking cost. In this case, you are liable to cancel 30 days before the starting date of your trekking. In lieu of this, the trekking group manager holds a complete responsibility to deduct 100% of the trekking cost if the cancellation is made within 0 to 30 days.
