La Sagrada Familia

Royal Monastery of Saint Mary of Pedralbes

The Royal Monastery of Saint Mary of Pedralbes is a monastery and church located in the north-eastern part of Barcelona. The monastery was founded in 1326 by Queen Elisenda de Montcada, wife of King James II of Aragon.

It was built on the site of a previous chapel erected by Queen Elisenda's father, Berenguer de Montcada, in 1283.

In the 18th century, the monastery was reformed by Cistercian monks from Poblet Abbey.
