There is no bus route to connect to the city and therefore,you need to take a car to reach Emerald Lake from Ooty City Center. You will need to drive along Woodcock Road and subsequently, Lake Road to reach the lake in approx 40 minutes.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Emerald Lake is during the summer months from April-June and winters from September-November. Avoid visiting the lake during the monsoons, from June-September because the weather is challenging and you will have no fun around that time.

How do I get to Ooty Emerald Lake?

-You can reach Emerald Lake Ooty by road through the state or national highways. The Tamil Nadu Government operates several luxury coaches from Mysore, Chennai, and Bengaluru. Private buses also operate from Madurai, Kanyakumari, and Tirupati and they take around 7-8 hours to reach Emerald Lake, Ooty.

-The closest airport to Ooty is the Coimbatore International Airport and connects with South India via direct or indirect flights. 

-You can also travel by train; the closest is the Mettupalayam Railway Station, about 45 km from Ooty. You can access the rail services from Mysore, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Private taxis operate to take you from the station to Emerald Lake.  

How do I get to Upper Bhavani Lake in Ooty?

First, you need to head for the forest department, close to the four-point crossing in Ooty, which is 24 km from the city. It will take an hour to reach, and from here, you will reach Upper It will take you approx 30-45 minutes to reach Bhavani Lake. You can choose to travel by the forest department vehicles. However, remember that the vehicles will not stop for more than 20 minutes, while you explore Emerald Lake. You cannot take cabs or private cars, because the lake is not accessible via private cars.

The Pykara Lake is 21 km off Ooty if you take the Ooty-Mysore Road. You can reach the lake by car, taxi, and bus, which are easily available.
