Khao Kheow Open zoo, Pattaya offers a day full of exploration and a chance to see wild and untamed animals in their natural habitat and surroundings. The zoo houses around 8,000 animals of almost 300 varying species.
The open zoo has an area span of 1976 acres, made with a specific goal to save the wildlife and its grandeur and beauty, which is best witnessed in their natural surroundings without any disturbance or artificial changes.
The Open zoo has been divided into a lot of zones, such as Animal Show Zone (to showcase the untamed life, living in the nature, and you can touch them and take a photograph with the animals in the ), Big-Sized Bird Cage (with thousands of birds that will be a marvelous sight to your eyes ), Eld's Deer Zoo (Eld's deer, roaming around, and you can touch them and play along), Elephant Trekking (trekking on the back of Thailand's majestic national animal- Elephant), Night Safari (watch the sunset and explore as the true wild comes to life in the night), Wild Cats Park (this zone is devoted to saving and breeding of wild cats).
Timings: Open daily from 08.00 am - 06.00 pm.
How to reach: It is a 1-hour drive to Khow Kheow Open Zoo from South Pattaya, Thailand. Cabs, motorbike taxis, Tuk-tuks are preferred as public transport options are not available.
Note: Children with a height under 4.4 feet will be charged as per the child fare.

The zoo was first opened in 1978, covering a total area of 2000 acres, and making it one of the best tourist attractions in Pattaya. The Zoo gives shelter to more than 300 species, which includes mammals, reptiles, avian, and aquatic animals. Moreover, there are certain activities, exclusively made to attract tourists. It includes animal feeding, night safari, Tarzan swing, etc. Khao Kheow Night Safari – This zone is meant for visitors who’d like to explore the Zoo after sunset. Cats Complex Park – Here, visitors can witness 48 different species of varying size in eight enclosures. Each enclosure area contains each species natural habitats, such as grasslands, desert, lands, woodlands, wetlands, and mountains. Above all, the management is trying their best to bring nature closer to humans in a safe and secure manner.
One can take a minimum of 3 hours to explore all the animal and plant species present in the zoo. Since it is one of the largest zoos in Thailand, offering various activities like animal feeding, tramp service, taking photographs, and many more, one cannot easily leave without enjoying the place. The entire Zoo is decorated with varied landscapes such as waterfalls, streams, sand, etc. bringing the natural habitat to its animals. There is no time limit fixed for tourists, hence they can stay as much as they can until the closing time arrives.
Yes. Travelers can touch and feed the animals, where authorities allow them to do so. In the EId’s Deer Park, the visitors can touch the deer, feed them, and take photos with them. Since it doesn’t cause harm to humans, it is completely safe for visitors to get close with them. As we know, wild animals like Lion, Tiger, Crocodile, Rhinoceros, etc. are extremely dangerous to humans. Hence, the visitors are not allowed to touch or feed them at any cost. One can spend time with elephants and giraffes endlessly, as they are super-friendly and feel enticed after seeing humans.
If you’re driving on your own, come along highway number 7 up to Sriracha area. Check for the signboard directs the zoo, and then turn right, and you can reach the Zoo after 7 km. You can take a taxi from Pattaya city to the zoo. It is about 45 kilometres from Central Pattaya. If you’re out of options, you can book Pattaya Private Car Charter from your hotel and arrive at the location seamlessly. But, make sure you start from the hotel at least 1 hour earlier. Please remember that there is no pick up and drop off facility available with the Zoo.
There are more than 300 species living inside the Zoo. The Zoo has divided the species into mammals, reptiles, avian, and aquatic animals. African Savannah – Animals like Zebras, Bestbok, Implalas, Springboks, Oryxs, Giraffes, Rhinoceros, Ostriches, and many more are placed here. The environment looks like the animal’s natural habitat. Walk Through Aviary – Through this aviary area, visitors can take a stroll and spot more than 80 different species of birds. The place is covered with ponds, streams, waterfalls, and exotic plants, making it a suitable place for birds to live. EId’s Deer Park – In this place, visitors can sit and relax with their family. Here, they can touch the deer, feed them and even take photographs.
The Zoo ticket price is categorized as follows: Adult – 150 baht Children (up to 135 cm high) – 30 baht Foreign adult – 250 baht Foreign children – 100 baht Military, police, students – 60 baht (students are required to show their ID cards) Free Entry for people aged above 60 years and older people having disabilities, who have special permit cards. Similarly, for motorcycle it is 40 baht, for car it is 60 baht, and for bus it is 100 baht.
Yes. You can bring your own food to the Zoo and have a nice meal with your family/friends. Tourists from the local community bring their home-cooked food and share it with others. It gives them a sense of brotherhood. However, there are also restaurants, ready to serve customers with exquisite dishes and desserts. The prices are relatively cheaper compared to other tourist places. Visitors come and taste the unique dishes, specially made by Chefs to attract customers. Moreover, you can enjoy your food anywhere in the zoo as there are no restrictions fixed, but ensure that the waste is disposed of properly
The zoo is open from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. The Zoo authorities follow their timings strictly, hence no tourist can extend his visit. The Zoo is set to be closed by 6.00 pm to give rest to the animals as they generally go to sleep or stop roaming in the dark. This ensures that animals are getting adequate care from the Zoo and does not feel any discomfort. The tourists are requested to visit the Zoo as early as possible, as it helps them to cover all the species and spend time with them without much hassle.
The exact location of the zoo is at 235/7 Tambon Bang Phra, Amphoe Si Racha, Chang Wat Chon Buri 20110, Thailand. The open zoo is located inside the Khao Kheow-Khao Chom Puo Wildlife Sanctuary. It offers a stunning natural backdrop of beautiful rainforest surrounded by hills.
