Overview

About the activity:

  • Mumbai is famous across India for its outstanding street food but discovering good eateries in a big city is not always easy. Not to worry, that’s where we come in! We’ll help you experience all the flavours the city has to offer by guiding you through Mumbai’s two best street food areas. You’ll start at Mumbai’s most famous beach, Chowpatty, where You’ll try an array of Mumbai’s best vegetarian street food as we watch the sun set. You’ll have classics such as dahi puri, pani puri and pav bhaji. Then you’ll take a short taxi ride to the lively Mohommad Ali Road area. In this predominantly Muslim neighborhood we’ll introduce you to the local culture and, of course, the delicious food. In the bustling ali khao gaullis (eating lanes) you will find mainly non-vegetarian options such as chota kebabs and chicken tikka

  • The tour takes place either at 12:00 PM-2.00 PM and 6.00 PM-8.00 PM at The Times of India Churchgate station and ends at Gunbow Street

  • Hope you’re hungry!

Food of Mumbai is our favourite and this street food tour made our day beyond imagination. We have never been to these streets before but had the best taste of Vada Pav. There was another ten people from various sorts of life and we could see everyone was thoroughly enjoying it. But thinking whether a street food tour costs this much or not. Since we booked for two, there was a discount. But still if you go alone, I think it is a little overpriced. Yet, the tour made me and my husband so happy. We came to Mumbai only six months ago and this was surprising sightseeing too.

I can't deny the fact that I got lost by the tasty food items. It is an exceptionally great place to have different cuisines native to Mumbai. Everything from start to end was perfect in this tour. Keep it up and thank you.

I was new to Mumbai and I had heard a lot about the street food here. Being a food lover, there was no way I was not gonna try. Thrillophilia helped me here by organizing it for me. We started from Chowpatty with vegetarian dishes and came up to Mohammad Ali Road area where non-veg delicacies made us lose our minds. In just two hours I'd tasted the best flavours of Bombay!

I accompanied two vegetarian people and two non-vegetarians. Both categories were satisfied by the end of this tour. Mumbai is just the place if you wish to taste some crazy experimental dishes and spicy street treasures.

Bombay is most famous for its street food and we couldn’t not try out the tour once we heard about it. Great initiative by Thrillophilia for organising this kind of activity, and thanks to the guide, Arman, who entertained us all the way on the tour!

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Is street food hygienic and safe to eat?

Yes! Well, not always, but the vendors we have carefully selected are perfectly safe and hygienic (1,000+ happy guests and counting!). In fact, this is one of the main motivating factors in designing this tour: we wanted to make India’s incredible street food accessible to visitors.

    2. I have food allergies - should I let you know?

If you do have any serious allergies feel free to let us know at time of booking and do also let your guide know on tour so that certain foods may be avoided. The range of food on offer means there is plenty for everyone generally however.

    3. Are there vegetarian options?

The first half of the tour (at Chowpatty beach) is entirely vegetarian. The second half of the tour is mainly meat but there are a few vegetarian dessert stops. If you’re vegetarian, eat a bit extra at Chowpatty and then spend your time in the Mohammad Ali Road area soaking in the electric atmosphere!

    4. Where will we go?

The first half of the tour is at Chowpatty Beach and the second half is spent exploring the Mohammad Ali Road Area and trying the best of Mumbai’s non-vegetarian street food.

    5. What will we eat?

At Chowpatty we will try some traditional Mumbai snacks like pani puri, sev puri, and pav bhaji. At the Mohammed Ali Road area we will eat snacks like chicken tikka and chota kebabs as well as a few desserts like fresh fruit ice cream and

    6. Is it appropriate for children?

Yes we are fine welcoming children 12 years and over on our normal tour at the responsibility of an accompanying adult. For visitors with children less than 12 years, please get in touch in advance as we would recommend a private tour.

    7. How many people can go on a private tour?

A private tour is for up to 4 people.

    8. Do you provide private tours for large groups?

Absolutely. Please get in touch if you are the organizer of a group visit: info@realitytoursandtravel.com

    9. Is there a lunchtime option?

We provide an evening tour as that is when the traditional street food areas of Mumbai we visit on tour come alive and the stalls open. The tour does not really work as well earlier in the day therefore where opportunities are less and the atmosphere is lost.

    10. Where is the second stop, Mohammad Ali Road? How do we get there?

The Mohammad Ali Road area is directly east of Chowpatty Beach and to the north of CST Station and Crawford Market. We will travel there by taxi and it takes about 15-20 minutes, just enough time to get hungry again for the next stops!
