Here, tourists can sit by the lake and enjoy views of the beautiful sun setting in between the surrounding hills. The lake is built with the purpose of providing water to the town of Chikmagalur and thus holds great importance.

Encompassed by coconut trees and colourful flowers, Hoysaleshwara Temple is one of the most beautiful Mullayanagiri tourist places. The temple is built to honor Lord Shiva and was constructed in the year 1121.

The temple is renowned for being adorned with the most stunning pillar and sculptures. It boasts of having about 240 sculptures beautifying its outer walls and famous across the whole country. The most prominent among these sculptures is the Garuda Pillar which has sculptures that showcase the Garudas cutting their own heads when their king or queen committed suicide.

Among the notable Mullayanagiri tourist places to soak in a religious respite is the Kappe Chennigaraya Temple. It is famed as a small shrine which is located near Chennakeshava Temple. There is a popular legend associated with this temple.

According to the story, Jakanachri was one of the sculptors at the temple who had a son Danakanachri. One day the son came and said to him that the stone was defective. Not recognising his son, Jakanachri said that he would cut his own hand if it was true. To check it, he spread over sandalwood stone over the carving he did. After drying up, some part of the carving remained moist and to their surprise a frog came out. Before his son could stop, Jakanachri had cut his hand by then. Therefore, this temple is also famous as the Frog Temple in Mullayanagiri.

One of the most intriguing places around Mullayanagiri is the Gravity Pillar. It is located in Chennakesava Temple in Belur. The height of the pillar is 42 feet and often called Mahasthambha or Kartika Deepotsava Stambha. The unique feature of this pillar is that it stands on the ground without a base and fixed on a platform which is built of just a single stone of granite.

It is believed that on the three sides of the pillar, it stands on its weight while on the fourth side there is no support. The Gravity Pillar is one of the most amazing examples of the architecture that was prevalent during the time of Vijayanagara Empire.

Among the prominent tourist places around Mullayanagiri, one cannot miss the Belur Sri Chennakeshava Temple. It is located on the banks of Yagachi river in the district of Hassan. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is called Chennakesava here and was built by Vishnuvardhan in 1117 AD.

It is encompassed by verdant landscape and boasts of having one of the most beautiful temple designs in Karnataka. It depicts the style of Hoysala architecture and enchants the tourists with its beautiful carvings and superbly done sculptures. Often called Kalasagar for its intricate beauty, Belur Sri Chennakeshava Temple was built in a span of 103 years spanning over 3 generations and employing over 1000 artists.

Located in Belakavadi, Veera Narayana Temple is one of the popular religious places around Mullayanagiri that worships the warrior form of Maha Vishnu. It was built by King Veera Ballala II of the Hoysala Empire. With a mace in one hand holding upwards and a chakra in another, this avatar of Vishnu depicts him to be battle ready.

Another attraction of this temple is the depiction of a trinity of different forms of Lord Vishnu. These include Narasimha, Krishna and Veera Narayana standing under the Kalpavriksha tree and playing a flute. Thousands of devotee flock to this temple to seek blessings from Lord Vishnu and appreciate the beautiful architecture of this temple.
