Overview The Lohit river comes into India at the border with China near India's eastern most inhabited tip, at a place called Kibithu. It is a medium volume continuous Class 4+/5 river in its upper alpine reaches and becomes pool drop towards the latter end of the trip. This trip is an exploratory Kayaking Expedition supported either by raft / cataraft or land crews wherever possible. One can look forward to rapids and paddle through some amazing white-water to discover a land that is distant and secluded from and is undisturbed by civilization. The expedition on the Lohit often requires support by land crews. The best seasons for the expeditions are March, November, December. The expedition starts with a train journey that takes one from Delhi to Dibrugarh where from 7 hours drive is anticipated to reach the town of Tezu. On the 5th day kayaking begins which continues through the week. Itinerary Day 1: We will fly from Delhi to Dibrugarh. Check in to a hotel in Dibrugarh and stay overnight. Day 2: We will take a drive for about 7 hours to the sleepy town of Tezu. Stay overnight at the Circuit House/Lodge. Day 3: In the morning we will drive 9 hours to Walong which is on the banks of the Lohit. Walong holds a historical value as it was the ground for a fierce battle in 1962 between the Indians and the Chinese. Set up camp there for the night. Day 4: This day is to relax at the camp or take short walks around Walong and nearby areas of Dong. Get into the sleeping bags for the night and get set for the first day on the Lohit. Day 5: Drive to Kibithu, a village 25 km from Walong. We will strike the river here to take on the challenges that Lohit has to offer. Paddle to Walong until late evening. Day 6: Paddle through Walong to Samdul, a 30 km journey grade 4+ section. Camp here at night. Day 7: Paddle from Samdul to Peliang and enjoy the scenic beauty in the surroundings. Overnight Camping will be done at Peliang. Here we will spend the evening walking along the riverbed, listening to the chirps of the birds or sit around the camp fire, exchanging stories about the days adventures. Day 8: A 31 km, grade 5 stretch will takes us from Peliang to Hayuliang,. We will Pitch our tents here and bask in the warmth of the campfire and enjoy a simple hot dinner. Day 9: In the morning we will paddle from Hayuliang through some amazing rapids to reach to Paya. One can take a nature walk or just relax and look forward to the last day of the river expedition. Day 10: The last day on the river is action-packed as we make our way to Parsuram Kund to finish the trip. We will drive 47 km to reach Tezu. Stay overnight at Tezu. Day 11: Drive from Tezu to reach Dibrugarh. Stay overnight at the Dibrugarh hotel. Day 12: The flight from Dibrugarh marks the end of the trip. We will then depart to Delhi by flight.
