18 kms away from the city of Panaji is Anjuna village, that borders the Arabian Sea with its Anjuna Beach. Spread over an area of 5 sq.miles with its swaying palm trees and the soft sands and unusual rocky formation, it is one of the beach which is quite frequently visited by tourists.
The influx of hippies to this place in the 1950’s and 1960’s changed the dimension of life around in this region. It is popular for its free spirits going around their lives along with rave parties and trance music. However in recent years restrictions over such parties has become stringent, thus reducing the number of visitors. This beach is also popular for its full-moon parties held during Christmas and New year.
Although, Anjuna is not the best beach in Goa, activities and facilities here like bars, parties, and the wednesday flea market are some of the major attractions. Best time to visit Anjuna beach is from early November to March. Christmas and New year are the peak period with large crowds coming to enjoy these parties. Along with all these the beaches of Goa are known for parasailing and other water sports.
However, along with enjoying in the beach one has to be careful about the scams and thefts that go on here. Public transport, taxis, bicycles, rickshaws and hire bikes are the common modes of transport in and around Anjuna village.
