About the Trek:

A quintessential trek for first-timers,the Hampta Pass trek is tailor made for those looking to experience the Himalayan adventures! The easiest access point for this trek is from Manali at an altitude of 14,100 ft, unlike most treks that start from a remote village.

Hampta Pass trekking is appealing mostly due to the fact that it connects the beautiful valleys of Kullu and Lahaul. The awe-inspiring landscapes and natural foliage of the region itself draws trekkers aplenty, not to mention the abundance of rare Himalayan birds and orchids spotted here.

Flourished with thick alpine forests, sprawling meadows, glacial valleys, this trek packs the punch of an idyllic adventure in the Himalayas. Moreover, trailing up to Hampta Pass also involves crossing through the high altitude alpine lake, reputed for its deep blue colour, called Chandratal. Another exemplary feature is the passage through the captivating Rohtang Pass that stands at an altitude of 13,000 feet and is enveloped in snow throughout the year, The best time to visit is in July to August.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Drive from Manali - Jobri, Trek from Jobri - Chika

Following your arrival in Manali by noon, embark on a scenic trail to Kullu. Located close to each other, both these towns are fringed with scenic mountains, picturesque meadows and offers a pleasant climate to their visitors. Upon the completion of this sightseeing tour, return back to Manali and check-in into a lodge/hotel.

Post lunch in the hotel/lodge; mark the beginnning of the Hampta Pass trekking with a short drive to Jobri. During the drive, you can have stunning views of the Vashisht Temple, which is the origin of natural hotsprings, a quaint settlement called Johari, several other villages along with Prerni, a snow-clad hamlet. Also during the drive, you can witness plenitude of temporary thached huts that belong to the hydro-power plant.

Arriving in Jobri, you can see a bridge made of concrete; up on crossing this bridge and get started with the trek to Chika. Maintaining left from the bridge, trek for around 2-3 hours till you reach Chika. Upon arrival in the hamlet, check-in into the camps and spend overnight in there with a deleicious dinner.

  • Day 2 - Trek from Chika - Balu Ka Ghera

Waking up today, enjoy your morning meal and get prepared for the adventure ahead! Following the usual trails from the Chika camp, you will reach a wooden bridge, crossing which you will come to a stream that has high density and flow of the water. Maintaining left from here, you will gain some height and the trail will take you through a flowery meadow and a picturesque stream. Crossing this stream, you will finally reach Bhalu Ka Ghera, which is the hibernating ground of the brown bears. Arrving in Bhalu Ka Ghera, get into the camp and retire for the day; dinner and overniht stay will be in the camp.

  • Day 3 - Trek from Balu Ka Ghera - Hampta Pass - Siagoru

Today will be the most stunning day of the Hampta Pass trek, as you will be ascending to the pass within the day!

Starting with an early morning trek, maintain left to the valley and make your way through the snowy meadows. Hereafter, the hike will become more exciting as with every step of yours, you will get to witness the alluring beauty of the vicinity; for the shutterbugs, this is an ideal place to capture the charm and appeal of the Mother Nature.

Continuing on the left, you will finally reach the Hampta Pass! Witness the meticulous beauty of the surroundings, get yourself some beverages and food from the nearby stalls, and relax for a while. Post this; depart from the pass and embark on a fascinating hike to Lahaul.

Located 14,000ft above the sea level, on this trail, you will witness an entire valley blanketed with thick covering of snow. Though crossing this valley is not very difficult, you might encounter some hardships while crossing the last bridge in the vicinity. After crossing Lahaul, the trek will descend down towards Siagoru, the final destination for the day.

Situated 13,000ft high, Siagoru is an ideal camping destination with scenic mountains, gurgling rivers and stunning streams. Finally, after covering a total of 14km trek, retire in the camp for an overnight stay.

  • Day 4 - Trek from Siagoru - Chatru, Drive from Chatru - Chandartal

Today morning, you will be crossing the river that is visible from the camp. While half of this trail comprises of easy and gradual hike, the rest will be a bit of challenging as the trek will become steeper and will take you through rocky surfaces. Traversing all the way, you will finally come closer to the captivating Chandra River.

A high altitude river, Chandra flows along the Manali-Kaza Highway and is fringed with stunning mountains on both the sides. The most scenic feature of this river is that, while on one side, the mountains are covered with snow; the other side of the river has barren mountains!

Finally after trekking for around 5 hours, you will arrive in Chatru, from where a delightful drive will take you to Chandartal, the last destination of the day.

  • Day 5 - Drive from Chatru - Chandratal Lake - Manali

Embark on your journey by car to Manali on the last day of the trek through a route open between mid-July to October-end that leads to Chandratal Lake at 14,000 ft. The sight of the lake’s crystal waters and Tibetan prayer flags adorn the trail. Trekking during other months will need you to take the Kunzum La route which offers a scintillating sight of the Chandra Bhaga range. After covering a total of 200 kms reach your ultimate destination of Manali your Hampta Pass trek comes to an end.

The Hampta Pass Trek is a Total bliss. You get high with the mountains..the scenic views; the hot Maggie's and definitely with Snow. But also it's a moderate level; as I was a bit towards the heavier body persons, there were very little difficulties..otherwise it's the best one could ever do; to embrace Life.

It is a short trek of just 5 days. The trekking in Himanchal – Hampta Pass starts from beautiful hill station called Manali. Manali can be reached by most of the public transports. I had a great and a nice trek here. It was not very tedious and the trek was greatly planned and brilliantly executed. I loved the trek a lot. It was awesome and fun.

I am a first time trekker and I was scared to take treks at all. Most friends warned me against trying Hampta Trek or any bigger treks. They asked me to try hiking, but they were all wrong. If you are a first time trekker like me and wondering for a long trek then please do Hampta Pass trek. This is the best ideal chosen place for any trekker. It was a great experience.

We 4 friends along with 7 other people from different corners of the country got together for this amazing journey called Hampta Trek. There were just too many splendid moments during the trek. Still, I would like to put down a few. 1. We were supposed to report to the starting point on 15th July at 8th. All the guys reported on time but a group of 3 got late as their bus broke down. One of the 2 Trek leaders waited for their arrival and ensured they join rest of the team at the first camping site (We had to start without them). 2. The 2 trek leaders were amazing with good knowledge of the area. They were neither too soft nor too harsh with the members. One used to be with faster guys and another was supporting the team from behind for those who were slow. 3. The 4-member team (2 - TLs, 2- Cooks) managed to bake a cake for my birthday in the middle of nowhere and made sure I enjoy it thoroughly. It was a very thoughtful celebration and was too overwhelming for me. The trek is properly designed for the moderate difficulty. The difficulty level gradually increases giving the proper time for everyone to acclimatize. A perfect choice for the beginners. In the end, I would like to thank Rahul, Rakesh and Thrillophillia for making it possible with such convenience. Looking forward to a few more in coming months. Cheers!

Begin from the hotel of Manali and in the morning ,you will reach chika on the first day. Chika is a beautiful point, popular for location of vashist temple. Next day the retiring point is Bula ka Ghera ,which is excellent for camping. There is a beautiful Nani Lake too that you can spot in Bula ka Ghera. Then crossing all the way of shegoru you will reach Hampta valley. It is an outstanding feeling to trek on such elegant location amid of all mighty mountains.
