About the trek:

Head out for a fascinating trek expedition to Chandrashila, the summit of Tungnath, which is prominently known as a famous tourist attraction for high-altitude trek lovers. It is located at a height of about 4,000 meters above sea level. Spot the spellbinding glimpses of Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch, and Chaukhamba peaks, the views of which are going to be your rewards for the hike. Discover the laid-back side of the Himalayas while trekking through the lush jungles and snow-capped mountains. Make your way through the forests with snowy paths and discover rich flora and fauna until you reach the destination at an altitude of 13,000 feet. On arriving at Chopta - a picturesque and unexplored destination, famous as 'Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand', you are surely going to reconnect with nature and soothe your senses completely. Later, proceed towards Chandrashila - the 'Moon Rock' summit of the Tungnath.

The starting point of the trip is Rishikesh, which is 5.3 km from Natraj Chowk. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport which is 20.8 km from Rishikesh. Private or public transportation is easily available to reach Rishikesh.

Chopta Chandrashila Trek from Delhi Itinerary

Day 1
Departure From Delhi | Overnight Journey To Rishikesh

Begin this wonderful trek from Delhi. Get aboard the AC Volvo Bus at around 10:30 P.m. which will take you to Rishikesh by morning. Overnight journey in the bus.

  • Board the bus from Delhi that will take you to Rishikesh in the morning.
Day 2
Arrival in Rishikesh | Transfer to Chopta | Witness the beautiful "Sangam" of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers on your way

Wake up amidst the mountains as you reach Rishikesh in the morning. After reaching, get transferred to Chopta. Take a small halt at Devprayag to witness the beautiful "Sangam" of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers. In the afternoon, take a break at Srinagar and savour on mouthwatering lunch, which is the most popular place in the Garhwal region. Reach at the campsite by evening in Baniya Kund. Have dinner at the campsite and retire for the day.

Day 3
Trek to Tungnath and Chandrashila Visit

Wake up early in the morning & soak your eyes with the beautiful sunrise views, peeping from the mountains. After having breakfast, trek towards Tungnath Chandrashila trek which is the highest Shiva Temple in the world. After a mild trekking of 5 km, reach Tungnath temple located on the snowy mountains. Feast on a packed lunch and start the journey to the most astonishing Chandrashila peak. Trek back to the campsite by evening and trek to Sari village for a night stay.

Activity: Trek to Tungnath & Chandrashila Peak
  • Begin your trek from Chopta to Tungnath which is approximately 3.5 kilometres.
  • The trail is well-marked and surrounded by lush green forests of rhododendron and oak.
  • The trek starts with a gradual ascent, and you'll encounter a mix of ascents and descents along the way.
  • Take it at a comfortable pace and enjoy the pristine natural surroundings.
  •  Reach Tungnath Temple at an altitude of about 3,680 meters. It's one of the Panch Kedar temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
  • From Tungnath, continue your trek towards Chandrashila Peak, which is another 1.5 kilometres away.
  •  As you ascend, you'll notice the landscape changing, with rocky terrain and fewer trees.
  • After about an hour of trekking from Tungnath, you'll reach the summit of Chandrashila which will welcome you with fascinating views all around.
Day 4
Deoria Tal Trek | Departure to Delhi via Rishikesh

Wake up in the morning at around 5:00 AM to find yourself in the laps of the mountains. Have breakfast and begin with your trek for a 2.5 KM trek towards Deoria Tal. Get astonished at the beautiful lake which is engulfed by lush greens & snow-covered mountains in the backdrop. Later, start trekking back and reach Sari village at around 10:00 AM. Pack your luggage and start descending back to Chopta. Get transferred to Rishikesh and then to Delhi by an overnight Volvo.

Activity: Trek to Deoria Tal
  • Begin your trek to Deoria Tal which is approximately 2.5 km making it a relatively short and easy trek.
  • The trail meanders through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and coniferous trees. It's a pleasant walk with occasional glimpses of the surrounding mountains.
  • The trek involves a gradual ascent, but it's not too steep. It's a good opportunity to enjoy the serene natural beauty and take in the fresh mountain air.
  • After trekking for about 1.5 to 2 hours, you'll reach the stunning Deoria Tal.
  • The lake is known for its crystal-clear waters and panoramic mountain views.
  • Spend ample time exploring the Deoria Tal area. Walk around the lake's perimeter, enjoy the tranquillity, and take in the breathtaking reflections of the surrounding peaks in the clear water.
