Is Leh Ladakh worth visiting?
The region of Ladakh lies in the scenic Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Ladakhi landscape varies from glacial mountain ranges to the stark dry mountains of the Karakoram with huge blends of the Great Himalayan mountains. Apart from the high-rise mountain peaks, the huge panoramic diversity could go anywhere from pristine blue water lakes, to the highest motorable roads and hairpin bends in the world. In terms of culture, the Ladakhi culture offers a very unique influx of the Indo-Aryans and the people of Tibetan descent. With such a huge amalgamation of geographical wonders, cultural diversities and uniqueness in flora and fauna, Ladakh surely makes for a worth visiting destination for everyone at least once.

Here are some of the major attractions that make Ladakh worth-a-visit for every person who is a traveller and an adventurer at heart.

1. High stark mountains in the backdrop of a cold desert.
The highlands of Ladakh are draped in multitudes of colors red, brown, orange, and green topped with white Himalayan peaks that are very well combined with blue skies in the day and starlit skies paired with multiple constellations and shooting stars at night. All in all, Ladakh is a blend of rugged mountains, clear skies, fresh mountain air, and barren desert-scapes that offer high-on-adrenaline demand treks and motorcycle rides across the region.

2. The pristine blue waters of the many lakes.
From the popular Pangong Lake to Tso Moriri Lake, the lakes of Ladakh brim with clear blue waters in the picturesque setting of blue skies and austere mountains of the Karakoram and the Himalayas. These lakes offer great panoramas in terms of photography and offer unrealistic natural reflections down the clear blue waters. Some popular Bollywood films like 3 Idiots and Jab Tak Hai Jaan were shot by these beautiful lake sites in Ladakh.

3. The Buddhist Monasteries and the Gompas
Ladakh is popularly known to be one of the oldest abodes of the many Buddhist monasteries and Gompas in India. Ladakh was one of the premiers places to set the chronicles of Buddhism in India. Some of the popular monasteries are Hemis, Thiksey, Stok, and Lamayuru including one Buddhist Stupa which is an eye-catcher called the Shanti Stupa.

4. The local Tibetan food.
Ladakh is a foodie's delight who is in to savour their tastebuds with locally cooked Momos, Chutagis (dumpling soup), Skew, Gur Gur Cha (butter tea) and Thukpas that definitely stand way out of the alternatives found in the urban Indo-Tibetan restaurants.

5. The unique flora and fauna.
The mountainous terrain of Ladakh is home to a wide variety of fauna like the Bharal or the blue sheep that is found in the areas of Zanskar and Sham. Another important wildlife feature is the Asiatic Ibex and the Ladakhi Urial which is popularly found in Ladakh other than the Yaks and the Double Humped Camels that can be spotted down the dry highlands of the Nubra Valley.
