Situated at an elevation of 1,072 feet, Dausa is a small city which was constituted in April 1991. A part of the Aravalli mountain ranges surrounds the city. The major rivers that flowed through the city were Banganga and Morel that have all dried up today. There are 36 dams built across these rivers.
Dausa has great historical significance. It was ruled by the Bargujars in the 9th century AD and was called as Dhundhar then. It has also given the country great freedom fighters and important personalities such as Ram Karan Joshi, Tikaram Paliwal and Sant Sunderdas.]
The city of Dausa is soaked in rich culture and heritage. Its Hela Khayal, a singing folk art form, focuses on socio-economic and political issues. Although these days the form of singing has undergone a significant change, the authentic and original art form can still be found in the city. Dausa is also known for its magnificent sandstone carving items which are popular both nationally and internationally.
Some of the important tourist spots in Dausa include Abhaneri, Khawaraoji and Jhajhirampura. Abhaneri served as the backdrop for the shooting of the movie Paheli starring Shah Rukh Khan. Some of the important temples of Dausa include the Neel Kanth and Panch Mahadev temple and Mehandipur Balaji Temple.
Dausa is well connected by rail, road and airways. The Dausa railway station lies on the Delhi-Agra and Agra to Jaipur route. Bandikui junction is also another important touchpoint for Dausa. As for road connectivity, since the NH 11 passes through the district, it is well connected to Jaipur, Agra, Delhi and surrounding areas.
