Chamarajanagar is a district which is located in the southernmost part of the state of Karnataka. This district was carved out from the then larger district named Mysore way back in the year 1998. The town named Chamarajanagar is said to be the headquarter of this beautiful district.
Chamarajanagar district is also the third least in terms of population amongst the other districts which are located in the Karnataka and covers a total area of nearly 5600 sq. kms. This district is bordered by Tamil Nadu and Kerala on two of its sides. The average altitude of this place is 662 metres.
The district has a large number of tourist places, which are worth exploring. These places include, Chamarajeshwara temple which is one of the ancient temple located in this region, MM hills which are known for providing a breathtaking view of the entire district and Somanathpur which is a historic place. There are also water reservoirs which are located in Suvarnavathi and Chikkahole which are just at a distance of 15km from the territory of Chamarajanagar.
The Chamarajanagar district is well connected to other parts of the country by a good and well maintained system of roadways, railways and airways. The State Highway 17 connects Mysore and Chamarajanagar. There is an approximate distance of nearly 60 km between Mysore and Chamarajanagar. A number of well know trains connect this region with other parts of the country. The airport which is nearest to Chamarajanagar is in Mysore which is just at a distance of 52 km. The International airports are situated in both Coimbatore and Bangalore.
