Ankola is a small town located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Ankola is known for its quiet and serene beaches and is also popular among tourists for its beautiful temples.
Located along the Arabian Sea, it is about 52 ft above the sea level. The climate here is hot and humid. The beaches of Ankola one can visit are Nadi Bag, Gabitkeni, R.B. Ankola Beach, Honey Beach and Keni Beach. The temples here are the temples of Kul devatas of the Saraswat Brahmins who migrated from their homeland unable to bear the atrocities of the Portuguese.
Gokarna which is about 11 kms from Ankola is also popular for its temples and beaches. Beach trekking here is quite common and interesting too. Along with this Gokarna is home to the very famous Mahabaleshwar temple. Goa which is about 111 kms from here can be added to the itinerary as one can enjoy water sports like skiing, jet skiing, wind surfing and speed boat ride along with visiting the Churches here. Although Ankola is known for its beaches and temples, it is also popular for the mangoes and cashews that are grown by the locals.
Ankola can be reached by road or rail. The nearest railways station is about 3 kms from the town. The nearest airport is at Goa and from there one can travel by bus or private transport.
