Rated as the ‘Happiest country in Asia’, backpaking tour to Bhutan is a must do for travellers who would like to get closer to nature, explore beautiful Bhutan untampered lands and get a feel of the local life and culture.
Arrival at Bagdogra
Embark on a backpacking tour to Bhutan which is going to be insightful, calming and exciting – all at once. Arrive at Bagdogra, from where we will drive to Phuntsholing. Just as you enter the beautiful Bhutan, there will be a stark difference in the landscape and lifestyle of people. Despite being an economic centre of Bhutan, Phuntsholing is quiet and orderly, much in contrast to its counterparts in other countries. A 4 hour drive will take you to your destination. Overnight stay at a comfortable hotel in Phuntsholing.
Today is the first day of your backpacking tour to Bhutan, so after a sumptuous breakfast, get set for a journey through scenic landscapes that you have thus far only imagined. As we drive along from Phuntsholing, treat your eyes to roads that characterised by no traffic and enchanting lands. You will not be able to take your eyes off the beauty bestowed by Mather Nature. Reach Paro by evening, after which you are free to unwind and relax. Overnight stay at a local hotel.
Tigers Nest Monastry, Hilltop View
Take time today to explore the charming town of Paro. If you are game, you can take up a small 3-4 hour trek to the hill top that will get you to the Tiger’s Nest Monastry. If not, horses can be hired to help you ascend up to this destination. It is believed that this place is blessed by Guru Rinpoche, who flew here on a tigress to defeat a local demon. He is also believed to have meditated here for 3 months! Be spellbound by the views from this elevation. After you have completed your visit, head back to Paro from where we will drive down to Thimphu – a 2 hour journey hereon.
Explore Thimphu, Thimphu Dzong
Today is a day you can explore Thimphu at leisure. Get a feel of the local traditions, try out their cuisine and make your way along this town that is at an altitude of 2400m. After we have arranged for the requisite route permits, we will make a visit to the Thimphu Dzong – one of the biggest Buddhist Monastry and fortress in Bhutan. Get acquainted with the architecture and lifestyle here. After a relaxed day, enjoy your evening at a local hotel.
Dochu La Pass, Punakha Dzong
Get set for a long day today! We will leave Thimphu after a sumptuous and early breakfast. The drive begins with a steep climb along entwined roads that leads up to the Dochu La Pass, at an elevation of 3450m. After being witness to stunning views, we will continue on our journey that goes through the Punakha Valley and on to Wangdi Phondrang. At Punakha, you will be welcomed at the largest dzong in all of Bhutan. Be amazed at the visions that meet your sight! Overnight at Punakha Valley.
Pele La Pass, Trongsa
Leave Punakha after breakfast and enjoy a scenic drive to Trongsa. At a distance of 140 kms, the drive will initially take you up a winding route through the Pele La Pass that is at an altitude of 3300m. You will enjoy the beautiful countryside en route your journey too. Located in Central Bhutan, this welcoming town is home to a Museum and Dzong. Stay overnight at Trongsa.
Trongsa Dzong, Trongsa Museum, Yotong La Pass, Bhumtang Valley
Begin your trip today by visiting local attractions of the Trongsa Dzong and Trongsa Museum. After exploring these places with historical relevance, begin drive to Jakar that is 90km away. Cross the Yotong La Pass that is at an elevation of 3425m. Eventually, make way down to the Bhumtang Valley, where you will encounter locals and witness first hand some of its small scale industries. Overnight at Jakar.
After an eventful Bhutan trip, we will begin our journey back to Thimphu that is at a distance of 250kms and will take approximately 8 hours to cover. So relax and enjoy a scenic drive to Thimphu where we will halt overnight.
Last Drive Back
If yesterday wasn’t enough of a visual treat, revel in the beauty that encompasses every street of Bhutan. Another long journey of 8 hours will bring you back to Thimphu with memories galore! Overnight at Thimphu.
