Overview

About the Destination:
A pristine lake of Himalayan ranges, Chandertal or the moon lake possesses unparalleled beauty. It rest in the quietude of the Samudra Tapu plateau, of the Spiti valley. The famous Chandra River which is a tributary of the river Chenab also originates from this lake.

At a height of 4,890m, the majestic Baralacha La lies nestled in the Leh Manali highway. It is one of the high altitude moterable mountain passes that connects the regions of Spiti, Ladakh Zanskar and Lahaul. With its awe-inspiring landscapes, like lush valleys dense forests and barren lands, the chandratal lake trek will leave you asking for more.

Embark on your Himalayan adventure from the charming town of Manali. Enjoy scenic drives along lush exotic land scapes, visit the famous Rohtang pass and enjoy camping in scenic campsites. With the sight of the beautiful Chandertal Lake in front you, you can’t help but let out a sigh of speechlessness. Camp along its banks and wade through icy cold streams or snow bridges on your exciting adventure.

A trek to the famed and lovely Baralacha la peak will take you through lovely emerald green meadows, to land you in the nurturing lap of nature!

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Drive from Delhi to Manali

    Overnight Journey to Manali

    With your arrival in Delhi, the first leg of this awesome journey begins. Travel overnight by state of the art, comfortable Volvo buses to the charming town of Manali, which is the starting point of your thrilling Himalayan adventure.

  • Day 2 - Manali (2,000m)

    Acclimatization Day

    Arrive in the quaint town of Manali in the wee hours of the morning, and drive off to a comfortable hotel. Get acquainted with your fellow travellers and spend the day relaxing at the hotel and getting acclimatized to the high altitude. Enjoy short walks in the lovely scenic town of Manali. Stay at the hotel overnight.

  • Day 3 - Drive from Manali to Batal (3,960m) (120km)

    6 Hours Drive, Acclimatization Hike, Rohtang Pass, Spiti

    The real adventure starts today. Start on the first leg of your exciting journey, with a drive to Batal. The trail is really beautiful, as you pass by the lush and exotic Kullu Manali valley, to a dramatic change in landscape at the Lahaul Spiti valley, where the land is barren with dune like terrain.

    Spend some moments at the famed Rohtang pass, enjoying the breathtaking scenery around. Arrive at Batal and set up tents to camp here overnight. Go on a short acclimatization hike later in the evening, to face the exciting trek in the days ahead. Camp over night in tents, amidst the exotic lush landscapes

  • Day 4 - Trek from Batal to Chandertal (3,907m)

    6 Hours Trek, Chandertal Lake, Chandra River, Bara Shigri Glacier, Lakeside Camping

      Start your day with a fortifying breakfast to gear you up for the exciting day ahead and embark on your trek to the mesmerising Chandertal Lake. The trail requires you to cross the Chandra River and ascend from Batal. Enjoy the stunning views of the beautiful Bara Shigri glacier and snow capped Himalayan peaks. Arriving at Chandertal, be prepared to be enthralled by the sheer natural beauty of the place. The lake is nestled among high mountains and you will find Gaddi shepherds in the region, out to graze their flock; camp overnight in this little piece of heaven on earth.

  • Day 5 - Trek from Chandertal to Topko Gongma (4,320m)

    5-6 Hours Trek, Tokpo Gongma, Steep Ascend

    Start your day early and proceed to trek towards Topko Gongma. The trail takes you through a steep ascend today. Enjoy your walk, feasting your eyes on the lovely natural beauty and delightful crystal clear streams which dot this majestic trail. Walk your way through barren land scapes, with steep slopes and boulder fields. Camp overnight at tents, in Topko Gongma

  • Day 6 - Trek from Tokpo Gongma to Tokpo Yongma (4,640m)

    5 Hours Trek, Trek to Tokpo Yongma, Chandrabhanga Peak

    It is vital that you start on your trek to Tokpo Yongma, early in the day, so that you can cross the rivers before the water level rises in them. The trail is a sheer delight with lovely views of the majestic ice clad peaks, of the Chandrabhaga range. Based on the situation at the time of the trek, you will be required to either wade through icy cold waters of a stream or walk through snowy bridges to reach the camp site at Tokpo Yongma. Camp in the lovely and serene campsite, dotted with local shepherds, and spend the night in the lap of nature.

  • Day 7 - Trek from Tokpo Yongma to Baralacha La (4900m), Drive from Baralacha La to Manali (7 Hours)

    5 Hours Trek, Chandra valley, Scenic Drives, Manali-Leh Highway, Last Day of Trek

    After a wholesome breakfast at the camp, gear up for a steep climb along the slopes of the lovely Chandra valley and be rewarded with a stunning view of the majestic Himalayan ranges beyond the Baralacha la pass , that is sure to be etched in your memory for a long time to come.  Continue on your trek by ascending to the Baralacha la south peak and then descend it and cross a river to arrive at a lovely green meadow, which will take you the Baralacha north summit. Here the famed Manali Leh roads meet the pass. This is the last leg of your trek, after which you can travel back to Manali by a vehicle, which will transport you to the hotel at Manali. Stay overnight in Manali.

  • Day 8 - Departure from Manali

    Leisure Day, Evening Departure

    Spend the day relaxing. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and catch up on some much needed rest, after your thrilling trek. Get dropped at the Volvo bus stand, later in the evening and take an overnight trip back to Delhi.

  • Day 9 - Arrival at Delhi

    Tour Ends Here

    Arrive at Delhi early in the morning; bid farewell to your travel mates, who have been part of your amazing journey and carry back with you, never to be forgotten memories of a week spent amongst nature, in all her unspoiled glory and splendour.

    I strongly recommend you to take all neccessary measures and precautions before embarking on this though trails ofChandratal to Baralacha La. A guide is must to have in the journey.

    I just fall in love with this place,The views from the peak point was so beautiful. You know it felt amazing to reach the height of 4900 m and shouting like a kid...enjoyed our overnight camping with bonfire dinner. Our tour guides were really very helpful and knowledgeable.

    it was very adventurous moment while crossing the Chandra River and passing beside the glacier. Tokpo Yongmo was the last largest stream that we crossed. Overall it was a great stay!!

    i just loved the the lake and glacier region, Moreover the Rohtang Pas was also a noticable place. I was slightly dissapointed by the lack of mobile networks but love my camping moments.
