How to Reach Arunachal Pradesh

You can reach Arunachal Pradesh by air, rail, or road, though most travellers use Guwahati (Assam) as their primary transit hub. Because the state shares sensitive international borders, Inner Line Permits (ILP) or Protected Area Permits (PAP) are legally mandatory for entry, regardless of your mode of transport.

Nitin Goyal, one of our verified travellers who booked the Northeastern Nirvana with Dibrugarh Sightseeing Tour package, shared in February 2026 that "the drive from Guwahati to Dibrugarh was long, but the landscape is like nothing else. Coming from Gurgaon, we enjoyed the pure air and the silence of the estates. The tea stay was great. Thanks, Thrillophilia!”

By Air

Most travellers fly into Assam, which is the primary gateway to Arunachal Pradesh:

  • For Western Arunachal (Tawang/Bomdila): Fly to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati. From there, hire a private cab or take an overnight bus or shared sumo (12–15 hours).
  • For Central Arunachal (Itanagar/Ziro): Fly to Donyi Polo Airport in Hollongi near Itanagar (connected via Kolkata and Guwahati) or Lilabari Airport (IXI) in North Lakhimpur.
  • For Eastern Arunachal (Pasighat/Roing/Tezu): Fly to Dibrugarh Airport (DIB) in Assam, then cross over into eastern Arunachal via road.

By Train

While Arunachal has its own railway station at Naharlagun (near Itanagar) which connects to Guwahati and New Delhi, most broad connectivity is through Assam.

  • For Itanagar: Take a train to Naharlagun (NHLN) or Harmuti Junction in Assam.
  • For Tawang & Bomdila: The nearest major railhead is Guwahati Railway Station.
  • For Eastern Regions: Tinsukia and Dibrugarh in Assam are the best railway stations.

By Road

Road travel is essential, as it is the primary way to navigate between towns once inside the state.

  • Entry Gates: You will enter the state via well-known entry check-posts like Banderdewa (for Itanagar/Ziro), Balukpong (for Tawang), or Dirak (for eastern districts).
  • Transport: State-operated APSTS buses (Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Service) connect major towns, but shared Sumo taxis are the most common, flexible, and frequently used transport options.

Visa / Permit For Arunachal Pradesh Honeymoon Package

Indian citizens travelling to Arunachal Pradesh do not have to possess a passport, but they are required to present an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter the state. The Inner Line Permit (ILP) is a protective document that provides access to sensitive ecosystems and indigenous tribal communities in Arunachal Pradesh. We will help you obtain an ILP in advance by processing government-issued identification.

  • Documents Required: A clear passport-size photo (white background) and a digital copy of an official ID like an Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Driving License, or Passport.
  • How to Apply: If your travel agent is not doing it, you can apply directly on the official Arunachal Pradesh eILP Portal.

Best Season to plan an Arunachal Pradesh Honeymoon Package

The overall best time to plan an Arunachal Pradesh honeymoon package is from October to March. During these dry months, you will experience clear mountain skies, pleasant daytime sightseeing, and open high-altitude mountain passes like Sela Pass.

October to March (Peak Season)

The period from October until March is the best time frame in which to plan an Arunachal Pradesh honeymoon trip. An average temperature of between 8°C and 14°C provides gorgeous scenic views in clear sunny weather, perfect for trekking and panoramic mountain views.

April to June (Shoulder Season)

April to June is the shoulder season, with mild weather ranging between 20-35°C. This period sees a massive blooming of many beautiful wildflowers throughout the entire valley and would thus be an ideal time for photographers looking to capture beautiful pictures together.

July to September (Waning Monsoon)

From July until September is considered to be the last part of the monsoon season. During this period, the majority of the waterfalls and forests will have been replenished due to heavy rains. Thus, creating a peaceful and private environment to enjoy together as a couple during your honeymoon trip.

Best Places to Visit In Arunachal Pradesh Honeymoon Package

These are the top places to visit in Arunachal Pradesh for your Arunachal Pradesh honeymoon package.

Tawang Monastery

Perched majestically at 10,000 feet above sea level, Tawang Monastery (known historically as Galden Namgey Lhatse) is the largest Buddhist monastery in India and the second-largest in the entire world. Overlooking the misty Tawang-Chu valley near the Indo-Tibet border, this 17th-century fortress-like sanctuary acts as the spiritual heart of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a premier highlight included in any romantic western circuit honeymoon package.

Sela Pass

Situated at a breathtaking altitude of 13,700 feet (4,170 metres), Sela Pass is a magnificent high-altitude mountain pass that serves as the mandatory geographic gateway to Tawang. It is widely considered one of the most physically dramatic and visually stunning milestones included in an Arunachal Pradesh honeymoon package.

Dirang Valley

Dirang Valley is a breathtaking, low-altitude mountain basin tucked away at 4,900 feet along the banks of the Kameng River. Because it sits much lower than the freezing heights of Tawang, it enjoys a pleasant, mild climate year-round. This makes it the ultimate spot for a relaxed, slow-paced stay where couples can unwind and acclimatise before heading up into the high-altitude snow zones.

Ziro Valley

Ziro Valley is an enchanting, UNESCO-nominated high-altitude plateau situated at 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) above sea level in central Arunachal Pradesh. Ringed by pine-covered sub-Himalayan hills, the valley is universally celebrated for its tranquil emerald-green rice fields, unique terrace farming, and the rich, deeply preserved culture of the native Apatani tribe.

Bhalukpong

Bhalukpong is a scenic foothill town situated at an altitude of 700 feet along the banks of the mighty Kameng River. Serving as the official entry gateway to western Arunachal Pradesh, it houses the mandatory Inner Line Permit (ILP) border check post.

In a romantic honeymoon package, Bhalukpong functions as the crucial "staged mountain approach"—a cosy, low-altitude riverside stopover where couples spend their very first night to break up the 15-hour overland drive from Guwahati.

Best Things to Do In Arunachal Pradesh

The best things to do in Arunachal Pradesh span across high-altitude glacial passes, river expeditions, century-old Buddhist traditions, and eco-conscious tribal immersions. Because the state is divided into vast, separate travel corridors, the absolute top experiences are best grouped into distinct categories

Raghunandan Hegde, one of our verified travellers who booked the Northeastern Nirvana with Dirang Sightseeing Tour package, shared in December 2025 that "Our North East trip from Bangalore was perfectly organised. The Kaziranga Jeep safari was the highlight, especially spotting the one-horned rhino. Hotels were centrally located, and coordinators kept us updated about the weather in Cherrapunji. It’s a great package for families.”

The Grand Munhkar Monastery

Take a trip to the world's biggest Buddhist monastery with your significant other to be amazed by ancient sacred manuscripts, detailed tapestries and colourful Monpa architecture against the backdrop of lush green hills.

Drive Through the Sela Pass

Drive through Sela Pass and have a chance to take beautiful, romantic pictures beside the ice of Sela Lake, which is located at over 13700 feet in elevation.

Witness Wildlife At The Pakke Tiger Reserve

Go for a guided jungle safari through dense Himalayan foothills where you will see the rare great hornbills and wildcats in their natural environment.

Relax at Geker Sinying (Ganga Lake)

Spend a peaceful afternoon in one of the most beautiful and serene lakes imaginable, Geker Sinying, in Itanagar, where you will feel like you are far away from city living, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of years old ferns and dense green forests.

Explore The Ancient Remains Of The Bhalukpong Fort

Walk hand in hand with your significant other and trace and wander through century-old remnants of bricks of the Bhalukpong Fort, perched high atop a hillside, right next to the roaring Kameng River.

Arunachal Pradesh Honeymoon FAQs

Is Arunachal Pradesh a safe and comfortable honeymoon destination?

Arunachal Pradesh is a highly safe honeymoon destination with welcoming locals, exceptionally low crime rates, and secure military border monitoring. While high-altitude winter travel involves cold weather and longer mountain road days, booking premium valley resorts in Dirang, Ziro, or Tawang ensures a highly comfortable and deeply romantic experience. To guarantee maximum comfort, couples should secure reliable, private 4x4 vehicles like an Innova Crysta to navigate the scenic mountain highways smoothly.

What is included in Thrillophilia's honeymoon packages for Arunachal Pradesh?

Thrillophilia’s Arunachal Pradesh honeymoon packages include top-notch deluxe accommodations, seamless point-to-point transfers, and comprehensive guided sightseeing across major attractions like Tawang and Dirang. To keep the mountain journey hassle-free, the itineraries bundle daily vegetarian-friendly breakfasts alongside local administrative assistance for procuring the mandatory state entry permits. Couples can also request premium add-ons, tailored experiential activities, or completely customised romantic itineraries through Thrillophilia.

Which is better for a romantic mountain getaway: Sikkim vs Arunachal Pradesh?

Sikkim is the better choice for couples seeking a well-developed, luxury-focused mountain getaway with shorter driving times, premium upscale resorts, and easily accessible glacial lakes like Tsomgo. Conversely, Arunachal Pradesh is ideal for adventurous couples who prefer raw, untouched nature, deep cultural isolation, and fewer crowds, though it requires navigating much longer road journeys and mandatory entry permits. Ultimately, Sikkim offers a more effortlessly comfortable and seamless romantic escape, while Arunachal delivers an unparalleled, offbeat frontier adventure.

Should I bring warm clothing for my autumn/winter honeymoon trip?

Yes, you must bring heavy, warm clothing because temperatures drop drastically during an autumn or winter honeymoon in Arunachal Pradesh, often hitting sub-zero at high altitudes. You should pack heavy thermal innerwear, insulated windproof jackets, woollen sweaters, and warm accessories like beanies and gloves to stay comfortable. Layering your clothes is essential since the weather transitions rapidly from pleasant, sunny afternoons in the lower valleys to freezing, sharp winds at snowy passes like Sela.

Are we able to configure our honeymoon in a specific way to include private experiences?

Yes, you can fully configure your Arunachal Pradesh honeymoon package to feature exclusive, private experiences by coordinating directly with your tour operator before finalising the booking. Operators can easily arrange intimate highlights like private candlelit dinners on riverside lawns, exclusive local guides for secluded tribal village walks, and dedicated 4x4 vehicles for just the two of you. This custom tailoring ensures you completely bypass the standard group schedules, giving you ultimate romantic isolation amidst the mountains.

Do we need a marriage certificate or proof of relationship to book a Arunach Pradesh honeymoon package?

No, tour operators and hotels do not legally require a marriage certificate to book an Arunachal Pradesh honeymoon package or share a double room. However, you must provide government-issued photo IDs (like an Aadhaar Card or Passport) with matching details to process your mandatory Inner Line Permits (ILP). Carrying a digital copy of your marriage certificate or a wedding invitation card is still recommended as a helpful backup for hassle-free check-ins at conservative local homestays.

Can we get good mobile network connectivity and internet access during our honeymoon?

Mobile network connectivity is stable in major hubs like Itanagar, Dirang, and Tawang town, where BSNL, Airtel, and Jio offer decent 4G or 5G data speeds. However, as you travel through high-altitude zones, deep valleys, and mountain passes like Sela, your network signal will drop completely for long stretches. It is highly recommended to download offline maps, pre-notify your family about network gaps, and rely on your resort's Wi-Fi for romantic evening updates.

What kind of food options can we expect in Arunachal Pradesh as a vegetarian couple?

While traditional Arunachali cuisine is heavily non-vegetarian and tribal-centric, honeymoon packages easily cater to vegetarian couples with North Indian, Jain, and continental food choices. Premium resorts and local restaurants serve fresh, delicious options like vegetable momos, thukpa, dal-roti, and organic farm-to-table vegetable dishes. If you have strict dietary preferences, simply inform your tour operator in advance so they can pre-arrange customised vegetarian meals across all your night stops.

How can we manage cash and banking transactions while travelling through the state?

You should withdraw sufficient physical cash in Assam (Guwahati or Tezpur) before crossing the border, as ATMs inside Arunachal Pradesh are limited and frequently run out of money. While premium resorts and shops in main towns like Tawang accept UPI payments, weak internet connectivity makes digital transactions highly unreliable on the road. Carrying smaller currency notes is especially useful for paying local entry fees, buying tribal souvenirs, or purchasing snacks at remote mountain checkpoints.

What medical precautions should we take for high-altitude sickness during our trip?

Since routes like Sela Pass and Bum La Pass climb rapidly above 13,000 feet, you should pack basic altitude sickness medications like acetazolamide (Diamox) after consulting your doctor. Stay well-hydrated, avoid sleeping at the highest passes, and ensure your honeymoon itinerary includes a gradual two-night stay in lower valleys like Dirang to let your body naturally acclimatise. Reliable tour operators also equip their private luxury vehicles with portable oxygen cylinders to handle unexpected respiratory discomfort smoothly.
