Kathesimbhu Stupa

The 17thcentury rendition of the renowned Swayambhunath temple, Kathesimbhu Stupa is one of the most popular Tibetan pilgrimage sites in Kathmandu. Located between Thamel and Durbar Square, the stupa was built using the left over materials from Swayambhunath temple complex. It is set in a hidden courtyard, surrounded by smaller stupas, engravings and statutes. Although well maintained and intact, this UNESCO World Heritage Site witnessed minor damages in the 2015 earthquake.

Kopan Monastery

Kopan Monastery is predominantly covered with Bodhi trees. Once upon a time this place was considered to be the residing place of astrologer for the king of Nepal. The view across this monastery is simply magical. It has accommodated some 360 monks, lamas, teachers and workers.

This monastery is the place where everybody residing here has devoted their time to study the teaching of Buddha Shakyamuni. Everybody is on the look around to follow the teachings of the founder Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Riponche.

Durbar Square Kathmandu

Chhauni Museum

Close to Swayambhunath, one of the most beautiful monasteries in the world lies a sprawling museum in a walled compound. This National Museum has some of the most interesting treasures on display, which makes it worth a visit.

Nagarkot

Dakshinkali Temple Nepal

The Dakshinkali Temple is a holy shrine which is dedicated to Goddess Kali. You will find the true goddess Kali with red eyes and protruding tongue. The goddess is beautifully adorned with necklace of skulls. Location: It is 22 km outside Kathmandu valley. Monasteries in Kathmandu

Kathmandu is one of the most beautiful destinations where you can discover Buddhist monasteries and temples. Nepal as a country has a rich Buddhist culture and the temples here center on a blend of Buddhism and Hinduism.

Kathmandu’s best bookstore, Pilgrims’ Book House was burned down in 2013, but travelers hope that it rises from the ashes. Ashok Binayak

Baraha Chhetra

One of the greatest Hindu pilgrimages in Nepal, Baraha Chhetra is the spot where Lord Bishnu’s avatar, Barah- a boar incarnation fought with the demon called Hiranakshya and killed him. The shrine is dedicated to the reincarnation, Barah and the images of the boar are spread beautifully throughout the temple. The temple is located at the confluence of might Saptakoshi and Koka Rivers.
