About the Destinations:

The second highest mountain in the Indian Himalayas, Nanda Devi forms an integral part of the Trans Himalayan peaks in the Kumaon region. This is indeed the heartland of excellent and rare experiences and adventures! Not just snow capped mountains, open green pastures of the high altitude meadows, or diverse flora and fauna, it also adds for an enthralling trekking paradise.

Another added feature of Nanda Devi trek is the easy access to some of the best glaciers in the world outside the polar region. Other than this, visit Munsiyari a gorgeous hamlet on the arterial water body of the Gori Ganga River, the Nanda Devi reserve, and the Martoli Village with houses at least one hundred and fifty years old reminding every one of the extent of Indo-Tibetan trade through the old silk route.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Drive from Chaukori to Kathgodam (296km)

     Nanda Devi Base Camp Trekking Tour Ends Here

    Starting in the morning, today will be transferred to Kathgodam with jeeps. With your evening arrival in Kathgodam, take an overnight train to Delhi and mark the end of the Nanda Devi trek with Pachu Glacier.

  • Day 2 - Trek from Munsiyari to Lilam Village (1,850m)

    7km Trek, Milam, Rustic Life

    After breakfast, prepare for your first Nanda Devi trekking tour episode . Pass through the bustling market place as the trail leads onto an open path. A fairly easy walk for about 4-5hrs with steady descent takes you to Lilam, the winter home of the villagers. This is where you’ll halt for the night. Spend the day learning about the traditional migration of the villagers during summer months, culture, and cuisine.

  • Day 3 - Trek from Lilam Village to Bogudiar (2,609m)

    12km Trek, Confluence of Poting and Gori Ganga

    You’ll be doing another stretch of picturesque trekking today. Although a long distance one, this trail takes you through dense forest of Utis trees, common to this region of sub-tropical Himalayas. Stop by at the meeting point of the Ralam rivulet and the Gori Ganga. Follow a steep uphill ascent to reach Bogudiar village as the sun almost sets. The confluence of Poting and Gori Ganga Rivers at this location is the day’s highlight. Overnight stay.

  • Day 4 - Trek from Bogudiar to Rilkot (3,130m)

    12km Trek, Stunning landscapes of the Trans Himalayan region, Nanda Kot Glacier, Rilkot ruins

    Today’s 12km trek takes you through the true panorama of the Trans Himalayan region. Experience the natural beauty of this landscape as the route takes a de tour around Laspa Village. Further north is the popular trekking trail to Pindari Glacier lying between the Nanda Devi and the Nanda Kot ranges. Arrive at Rilkot Village situated above the Alaknanda River. Pitch tents for overnight stay by the riverside. Spend the daylight hours exploring ruins around Rilkot.

  • Day 5 - Trek from Rilkot to Ghanghar (3,300m)

    13km Trek, Typical Trans Himalayas, Pachu Valley, Alpine Meadows, Ghanghar village

    Yet another day’s long trek is ahead of you. Begin after breakfast from Rilkot and traverse by now typical landscape of the Trans Himalayan region. Walk through sunny meadows as the crisp mountain air accompanies you all the way to the ancient village of Ghanghar. Enter the Pachu Valley territory, which leads to our final destination of Nanda Devi Base Camp. Situated at an altitude of 3,300m, this exciting village is where the Johar tribe set up winter homes. Explore the surroundings to find houses with woodcarvings and also an ancient temple; overnight stay in Ghanghar.

  • Day 6 - Trek from Ghanghar to Pachu Glacier (4,000m)

    7km Trek, Stunning Nanda Devi, Rhododendrons, Pachu Glacier

    It’s a strenuous day of Pachu Glacier trekking! After breakfast begin on a trail of 7km distance, which will take around 5hrs to reach the head of the Pachu Glacier. The highlight of today is the stunning view of the Nanda Devi peak, which keeps getting clearer and stronger with every step you take towards the Pachu Glacier.

    Pass through rolling high altitude forests of rhododendrons along the way. These pink and white flowers in full bloom absolutely make the distinct framework of this landscape. Coupled with green birch forests, this stretch of the trek is truly magnificent. Reach an open alpine meadow with varied flora and at the head of the Pachu Glacier emanating from the northern face of Nanda Devi followed by overnight stay in tents.

  • Day 7 - Nanda Devi Base Camp

    Exploration Day in Nanda Devi Base Camp, Pachu Glacier  

    With the mental support of being at the base camp after a long trek, utilise the day well to explore the splendid sights surrounding the Nanda Devi base camp. Spend the day in Pachu Glacier trek for an up, close, and personal view of the Nanda Devi and other peaks. Return to base camp for an overnight stay in tents.

  • Day 8 - Trek to Pachu Glacier to Martoli

    17km Trek, Ancient Indo-Tibetan trade route, Beautiful Village

    Another day of lovely sights and scenes along the trail await you! Begin a downward Pachu Glacier trek after breakfast. Traverse the ancient trade route along the Indo-Tibet border and arrive at Martoli, an important destination on this route. The village scene around here is outstanding, as you’ll observe very old houses with exquisite wooden carvings. Each distinct from the other with stories of their own. Enjoy the fascinating views of Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot from the village. Overnight stay in homes of local villagers.

  • Day 9 - Trek from Martoli to Rargari

    20km Trek, Easy Trek, Hut Stay

    Today, after having breakfast, you will be trekking back to Rargari. The down-trek for the day is an easy one and is laced with scenic views all around; overnight stay will be in tents.
