Arrive at Dehradun early morning to take part in the Vasuki Tal trek that takes you through the glaciers of Gaumukh, the snout of Gangotri, while engaging in exciting glacier crossing, boulder hopping, and other similar events. Brace yourself before you head to reach the top portions of the glaciers where you will find the best views of some of the famed mountains of the Himalayas such as Mount Shivling, Vasuki Parbat, the Bhagirathi Massif, and much more. Watch the mighty Bhagirathi River flowing on your side, cross the rough terrains and conquer the matured steeps during the adventure.

How to reach Gangotri:

By Rail:

The nearest railway station to Gangotri is Rishikesh 234 km before Gangotri on NH58 and is well connected by railway network with major destinations of India. Trains to Rishikesh are frequent. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, and many other destinations to Gangotri.

By Air:

How to reach Gangotri by Air- The nearest airport to Gangotri is Jolly Grant Airport which is located around at the distance of 250kms. This airport is well linked to Delhi and there are numbers of daily flights to Delhi which connects to major parts of the country.

By Road:

Gangotri can be reached only via road in a bus, privately operated jeeps, SUVs/ other vehicles. The journey from Rishikesh takes about 12 hours. Taxi/Jeeps are also available from Taxi Stations in Rishikesh, Haridwar & Dehradun. Tourist cabs are available from Dehradun/Rishikesh.

Vasuki Tal Trekking Inclusions:

1. Accommodation – Guest House and Tented accommodation throughout the Vasuki Tal trek.

2. Meals – (Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner). We provide simple, nutritious vegetarian food on all days of the Vasuki Tal trek.

3. Camping charges – All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included.

4. Trekking equipment – High-quality tents and sleeping bags in all the camps. Sleeping bags can withstand temperatures as low as -10 ºC.

5. Safety equipment – First aid kit, oxygen cylinders, oximeter, harness if required, etc. will be with guide/trek leader and at the campsite as well to deal with emergencies.

6. Expert trek Leaders – All our trek leaders are at least qualified in basic/advanced mountaineering and first aid course.

7. Expert Trek support team – The mountain staff on this trek consists of certified guides, cooks, helpers, and porters.

Vasuki Tal Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Dehradun to Gangotri (3,048 m) - 9-10 h drive
  • We board cabs from the holy town of Dehradun early in the morning and move towards the holy town of Gangotri (1000 feet) the road-head for this trek
  • The journey takes around 10-12 hours,
  • Meal plan: Welcome drink and dinner
  • Overnight stay in Hotel
Day 2
Gangotri to Bhojbasa (3,800 m)- 7-8 h trek
  • Gangotri (3048 mts/10000 ft) - Bhojwassa (3792 mts/12440 ft) 14 kms trek/5-6 hrs)
  • Start your trek towards Bhojwassa via Chirbasa (3600mt).
  • From Gangotri in Uttarkashi District, you will move along the beaten track towards Chirbasa, which is on a tree line.
  • Trek through the roaring Bhagirathi River.
  • From Chirbasa we trek further to Bhojwassa, the entire trail passes through dense forest.
  • Arrive Bhojwassa there is a small temple and a potential campsite near down the river.
  • Experience the excellent sunset on the Bhagirathi group of peaks.


Day 3
Bhojbasa to Gaumukh (3,900 m) to Tapovan (4,335 m)- 7-8 h trek
  • Bhojwassa - Gomukh (3890 mts/12760 ft) - Tapovan (4463 mts / 14640 ft) - 13 Kms
  • Early in the Morning enjoy the panoramic view of the Bhagirathi group of peaks.
  • After breakfast trek to Gomukh (3890mt), the source of the Ganges.
  • Explore the area and trek to Tapovan, one of the finest high altitude alpine meadows in the area.
  • The trek from Gomukh to Tapovan is ascent steep, and as we climb, the view of the surrounding peaks becomes clearer.
  • Enjoy the sight of the herds of Bharal (blue mountain goats) are a common sight from here on mountain ridges. On the far side of the glacier the Bhagirathi I, II, III (6454mt), provide an equally impressive backdrop.
  • Arrive Tapovan and camp.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in camp.
Day 4
Tapovan to Nandanvan (4,340 m)- 7-8 h trek
  • Tapovan – Meru Glacier - Nandanvan (4340 mts/14235/Trek 4-5 hrs)
  • Start this trek early to the great Meru Glacier.
  • After a brief halt to explore Meru Glacier, we trace back to Nandanvan via Gomukh glacier.
  • The route from Tapovan leads from the upper section of the meadow till down and onto the glacier.
  • From Gomukh turn towards Nandanvan (4340m) and steering on the right one will be on top of the Gangotri glacier.
  • Explore the huge crevasses gaped here and there.
  • After walking, for about a kilometer there is a vertical ascent.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
Day 5
Nandanvan to Vasuki Tal (4,463 m)- 3-4 h trek
  • The trek goes on the right side of the Chaturangi Glacier, we reach the highest point of our trek at 4880 meters which is the high altitude lake of Vasuki Tal.
  • The lake also serves as a beautiful base for Mt Satopanth and Mt Vasuki The trek is steady upward.
Day 6
Vasuki Tal to Bhojbasa (3,800 m)- 5-6 h trek
  • We trace our route back through Gangotri glacier to the campsite of Bhojbasa.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 7
Bhojbasa to Gangotri (3,048 m)- 4-5 h trek
  • Via the Same route which we did the first day we reach the holy town of Gangotri, we look back and share experiences of the trek.
  • Overnight Stay in Hotels
Day 8
Gangotri to Dehradun- 9-10 h drive
  • After breakfast gets ready for travel down to Dehradun.
  • Enjoy the sublime view of the pine forests, the majestic mountains, and the lush grasslands.
  • End of tour.

Know Before You Go for Vasuki Tal Trek

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
  • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the package.
  • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity may be available only at a few locations.
  • All the activities depend upon the weather.
  • The Vasuki Tal trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travellers littering may be fined.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the Vasuki Tal trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of trekkin shoes for the trek.
  • Children below the age of 7 years are not recommended for the Vasuki Tal trek.
