How often do we get to see a glacier? Join this trek and you will find one. Trust me, the Garhwal Himalayas are the best destination to encounter a glacier and when it is the Bagini Glacier, you can guarantee of the most captivating beauty of the snow, glaciers and the mountains. Just be prepared to face the drop in the temperature. But if you pack carefully, you will find the trek really amazing.

The Bagini Pass, the freshness that exists in the air, the colourful meadows and valleys that you will be passing through in this trek will keep you intact with the beauty of the Himalayas. Not so hard and not to easy, I completed this trek while enjoying all the gifts of nature with 4 of my friends.

Overview

About the Activity:

The Bagini Glacier trekking in Uttarakhand is undoubtedly panoramic, known for its captivating natural beauty and ravishing landscapes filled with exotic aromas from some of the rarest of alpine flora, but is also one full of adventure. The refreshing and tranquil environs of the Garhwal Himalayas have a tale to their very own.

The trail originating from Joshimath scales to heights of above 14,000ft throwing some of the best of Himalayan picturesque frames. Providing glorious views of lovely snow capped peaks like Dunagiri, Changa Banga, and Kalanka the trek is carved to enthrall trekkers with never before experienced sense of amazement.

A bonus feature especially for those who genuinely enjoy nature at cits peak, the trek to Bagini Pass couldn’t get more enriching. Encompassing all the characteristic features of the Uttrakhand region, the trek meanders through thick rows of rare species of alpine flowers, while you get to absorb the serene atmosphere, unpolluted fresh and crisp air, and crystal clear water of the mountain-rivers.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 -

As you arrive in Haridwar, you will be driven towards Joshimath. On the way, you’ll drive through sacred lands of Rudraprayag, Devaprayag, Karnprayag; overnight stay in Joshimath.

  • Day 2 -

After breakfast in Joshimath, you will be driving towards Jumma; on the way, purchase daily essentials for the trek. Along the drive, you will be passing through several remote mountain villages that adorn the Himalayan tapestry. With the gushing Dhulaiganga River for company on the latter half of the drive, your welcome to the non-descript Jumma village bordering Tibet cannot get any better!

Once you arrive in Jumma Village, you will be starting with a 3km trek to Dronagiri. Arriving in basecamp, step into the camps for an overnight stay.

  • Day 3 -

Wake up to a gorgeous morning on a beautiful campsite located beside a mountain river. Start with the day’s trek through a well laid path meandering through forests and arrive at the Dronagiri campsite; overnight stay will be in tents.

  • Day 4 -

Today morning, after having breakfast in the Dronagiri camp, leave for Bagini base camp. On your way, enjoy the first sighting of Rishi Peak and Bagini Nala! The path traverses through meandering routes along high ridges and makes its way through concrete bridge. Arriving at the base camp, retire for the day in tents.

  • Day 5 -

Leaving the base camp early, today you will be covering a total of around 14km. The steep trails, you will be passing today, will take you through enthralling moraines and a number of crevasse on your way to the Bagini Glacier. Tucked amidst towering peaks of the Himalayas, the glacier offers mesmeric views of the Trishul, Rishi, Kalanka and Changbang peaks. Spend some pleasant times at the glacier and follow the same route and trek back to the basecamp.

  • Day 6 -

Walk back on the same path taken on your Bagini Glacier trekking. This time as you would be descending, the 18km trek would not feel as strenuous! Pass through Longtulli to arrive at Ruing village followed by an overnight stay in camps.

  • Day 7 -

Today, begin with an early breakfast and start advancing towards Jumma village. Arriving in the hamlet, you will be driven back to Joshimath for an overnight stay.

  • Day 8 -

Waking up today morning, pack your bags and get ready to wish adieu to the enchanting ambience of Joshimath as the tour ends here and it will be time for you to start your onward journey.

The trek basically started from Jumma after Joshimath. But once is started there was no looking back. The beauty of the Bagini Galcier trekking started from Dronagiri and all our group members were spellbound by its magical beauty. Had a memorable experience of the trek.

It was so refreshing and genuinely beautiful. The Himalayas has more than we can imagine and this trek proves it very clearly. Just one thing, if you planning for this trek, please don't litter around. Let us keep the nature in its own form.
