The breathtaking glacial lagoon of Jokulsarlon is one of the unique places to watch the Northern Lights in action. Lying to the southeast of Vatnajökull National Park, the ice boulders on the black sandy beach pick up and radiate the green and red glow of the Northern Lights, resulting in a photogenic kaleidoscopic effect.

Volcano Hekla is one of the most famous active volcanoes in the world, located near the southern end of the eastern rift zone in Iceland. Nicknamed ‘the Gateway to Hell’ in the Middle Ages, Hekla is a stratovolcano which is known for being Iceland’s most unpredictable, powerful and explosive volcano.

Spread across a vast area of whopping 13,600 square kilometers, Vatnajokull National Park happens to be the largest national park in Europe. Constituted by Skaftafell National Park and Jokulsargljufur National Park, Vatnajokull National Park features diverse landscapes, including glacial ice, geothermal activities, and shimmering rivers. Encompassing over 14% of the total area of Iceland, the national park houses Europe’s largest glacier.
