Trekking in Bilikal Rangaswamy Betta

Bilikal Rangaswamy betta is a stone’s throw away from Bangalore in comparison to other hills. It’s located close to Kanakapura, which is around 50 km from Bangalore.

The hill stands tall at 3,000. It’s part of Eastern Ghats, and is covered with shrub forest. There is a shrine at the hilltop devoted to Lord Rangaswamy. Temple priest lives near the temple. One can spot elephants and other animals in the night. The Trekking Trail starts from Koonala Doddi.

From the top, one can see the hillocks of the Kanakapura range, including BM betta and KabbaLa durga. On a bright sunny day, Savanadurga can be seen.

Sangama: The place is the confluence of Arkavathy and Kaveri, thus called “Sangama” by locals. It’s one of the major tourist attractions in Kanakpura and around 2 hours drive from Bangalore.

Kanakapura fort: Built by the chief of Channapatna, Jagadeva Raya, this fort is another place to visit in Kanakapura. One can spot the remains of the fort near the Arkavathi bridge

How to Reach: 

Bangalore → Kanakapura Road → Harohalli → Dodda Maralawadi → Koonala Doddi → Bilikal Rangaswamy Betta.
Board a bus from Bangalore going towards Kanakpura via Horahalli. Get down at Horahalli, and catch a bus to Dodda Maralawadi, and from there, you can take a local bus to reach Koonala Doddi. Also at Harohalli, you can hire a private cab to reach your trekking destination.
Alternatively, there is an easier route, which is a jeep track. It starts from Kanakapura and takes you till the peak.
