Kanchenjunga Trek From Darjeeling Overview

Trip Starting From: Yuksum

About the Kanchenjunga from Darjeeling:

Arraying beyond the sea point to a few hundred meters, the dales of Kanchenjunga exhibit amazing land diversity. Exceeding through the numerous tea estates and heavily wooded dells, Kanchenjunga is overloaded with vast stretches of alpine pastures. The trek to Khadchendzonga or Kanchenjunga from Darjeeling is a challenging one. For some, it may sound strenuous and challenging, while for all others, the trek is a sight of delight.

Initially, Kanchenjunga trekking was prohibited, later, the trekkers started unwinding the different trekking routes to make their own way. This leads to the exploration of hidden treasures of the Kanchenjunga valley such as tribal villages, gorgeous lakes, abundant flora and fauna, and dense forest covers.  On your way to Kanchenjunga, be ready to treat your eyes with the delightful vistas of a misty cloud-based canopy, snow-blanketed gleaming mountain ranges, and vast stretches of dramatic landscapes.

Your trek to Kanchenjunga begins from Darjeeling which is populated by the presence of vastly stretched tea estates. Luxuriantly thick covers of pines, rhododendrons, spruces, yak pastures, green meadows, and giant magnolia forests – all sums up the charming beauty of Darjeeling.

With numerous stopover points such as Yuksom, Sachen, Tshokha, Phedang, Dzongri, Thangshing, Goecha Lamuney the trek becomes a bit difficult to endure for time-bound adventure enthusiasts. Thus, just like the Zanskar Valley trek, this trek too can be accomplished with small trekking journeys for people strapped tightly to their time zone. No matter what time you can dedicate for trekking here, trekking to Kanchenjunga from Darjeeling is undoubtedly going to bloat you with a bundle of memories so that you revisit the spot either in person or in reality.

Except for Monsoons and peak winters, every other season is best to put your adrenaline to pump faster than ever with this not so tricky trek. While the routes may turn out to be slippery in monsoons, you may face the extremities of heavy snowfall in winters.

Every year me and my 4 friends plan a trek to some of the treacherous places. This year was no different, especially after a long spell of staying and working from home. We went ahead with the idea but this time we booked with Thrillophilia for a luxurious camping experience. And, trust me when I say this, we had a spectacular trekking experience from the minute we arrived in Darjeeling. We had an adventurous drive to Yuksom, trespassing the Teesta river. We continued uphill and crossed the Legship bridge only to reach a Yuksom hotel where Thrillophilia had booked our stays. The minute I checked in we could not believe we could get such a place for just a day of our stay as the hotel was clean, with staff ensuring sanitization at every cost. I was amazed at how it was arranged- overnight staying in tents, camps and huts even at remote locations of Tshoka, Samiti lake, Thangshing, and Dzongri. We did share out tents but an expert team ensured safety by having a first-aid-kit in hand at all times. A big thanks to Thrillophilia for arranging all the necessary permits and managing the entry fee at places required. Totally recommend Thrillophilia if you desire a mix of sightseeing, camping, trekking and not just hiking!
