Nestled high up in the mountains at an altitude of 3310 Mts above sea level Dodital trek is another must do trek for you. Known as one of the most beautiful treks in North India this trek has been attracting travellers from far and wide. This trek is named after the rare Himalayan trout which is known as Dodi in the local language. You will start your Dodital trek from Dehradun and then to Uttarkashi. From there you will reach the quaint little village Sangam Chati. From there you will continue your trek with an initial steep climb that will take you to Agoda settlement.
Enjoy camping near the winsome campsite above the rivulet at Bhebra. Continue trekking and your trail will take you through a mixed forest high above the Asi Ganga before entering a side valley leading to Dodital. On your third day, you will be trekking for around 6 hours and to a height of 3310m. Catch the glimpse of the Gujar settlement and then make your way through the rhododendron, oak, pine and bamboo forest. Delight in the pleasant drive and en route stop for lunch and short breaks. By early evening, reach Sangam Chatti, a quaint village market place that will be the starting point of your trek. You will be briefed by the trek leader on what to keep in mind regarding the trek.
Dig into a delectable breakfast and gear up for the thrilling trail ahead. Ramble on initial steep climb that will take you to Agoda settlement and mark the beginning of the Dodital trekking and Darwa Pass. Post that, you will experience a gradual trail to Bhebra that is dotted by some tea shacks and lodges.
Pitch your tent at the winsome campsite above the rivulet. From here on, be prepared for snow.
Overnight will be spent in tents.
Relish morning breakfast, post which you venture on a trail that goes up steadily from Bhebra through a mix forest high above the Asi Ganga before entering a side valley leading to Dodital.
Just 5 km away at Majhi (3150 m), you will witness a Gujar settlement. Take a break here and dig into packed lunch. From there, you make way through rhododendron, oak, pine and bamboo forest.
At this section, expect a lot of snow that comes along with some challenges and excitement. By late afternoon, arrive at the serene lake. Set camp beside it and take in the beauty that abounds.
Overnight will be spent in tents.
This day, you have two options in front of you. You can either remain at Dodital and unravel the lakeside areas or go on a hike to Darwa Pass.
In case you decide to go to Darwa Pass, start early to ascend the summit that would require some energy. The initial part of the trek is a delightful one as you make way through meadows dusted with snow and laced with rhododendron trees.
At the last leg you will have trudge on a steep and long trail. The coup to the top is a rewarding with stunning sights. Witness the majestic Himalayas. Go trigger happy and retreat to Dodital.
Once back at the camp, sip on piping hot masala tea and some crispy pakodas. Overnight will be spent in the tents.
This day is fairly easy as you trek back to Bhebra that will mostly comprise a downhill trail.

Post breakfast, trek for around 2 hours to reach Sangam Chatti. Savour the charming walk through Agoda hamelt. Once you reach, board vehicle to drive down to Dehradun which you will be by around 6:00PM: the Dodital trek and Darwa Pass trip ends here.

Trekking in the forests and gaining height was a challenge for the first time trekkers like us. Family members enjoyed the whole journey a lot. Though they were tired but they were happy. Good place for tourists who want a small trekking experience. The hotels were average but the food was relishing despite of scarce resources. Thumbs up.

The best time to do this trek is from April to November barring the monsoon(Except July & August) as there are chances of landslides on the way during those rainy months.
This trek is fairly easy. But it makes a lot of sense to spend some time before coming on a trekking holiday getting some additional exercise. The fitter you are, after all, the more enjoyable you will find the experience. For this trip you need to be aerobically fit and also comfortable with walking up to 7 hours on some days.
The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum. You should carry high-ankle trekking shoes. Different shoes are suitable for different kinds of treks, depending on the weather, trail condition as well as duration of the trek. For this particular trek, shoes with thick souls are recommended.
There are proper meals with subsequent nutritional values planned for the people coming in for the trek. From dinner on Day 1 to Breakfast on Day 6, all meals will be provided. This would include nutritional vegetarian meals, a total of 6 in a day, with the addition of tea and coffee during breaks.
Carrying medicines is important while trekking anywhere in the world. Your first-aid should have anti-diarrhea medicine such as loperamide but make sure that you don't take it unless getting to a toilet isn't an option. During the trekking you may not have access to pharmacies. So it’s better to have medications ready. Yes, you can carry diamox and can be taken too if having sickness/nausea

One can drive from Dehradun to Uttarkashi. Dodital, a fresh water lake at an elevation of 3085 meters is a popular trekking destination in Uttarakhand Himalayas. Located in the border district of Uttarkashi, the 30 Km trek through dense forested areas and deep valleys concludes at Darwa Top at an elevation of 4200 meters.

This includes the time taken to reach Dodital and then come back to the basecamp via a car or other vehicle. Some can take a shorter trek and start from Uttarkashi or even the Sangam Chatti village.
Dodital Trekking cost depends on the kind of agency you chose and if you are doing the trek on your own. Usually the prices range from Rs. 8000 to Rs.10,000. This again depends on the vendor. Besides, you have to reach Dehradun on your own. From there, the camp takes care of the costs for the meals.

Yes the trek is a little challenging. If you are going trekking for the first time, it will be a little too much for you. So it is suggested that you consult the travel agency or your group before heading off.
An option is to not start at Dehradun but may be from Uttarkashi or even the Sangam Chatti village.
