Arrive at Paro
Experience the thrill of mountain flying while gazing down over the meandering Paro Chu River.
You will be met on arrival and transferred to your accommodation for a stay of 2 nights.
Paro – Tiger’s Nest excursion & sightseeing
After breakfast, drive to Taktsang, the most famous of Bhutanese monasteries which is widely known as “Tiger’s Nest.” On return to Paro, visit Ta Dzong, which displays antique thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons and a rich assortment of historic artifacts. Also visit Rinpung Dzong.
Paro to Thimphu (by road – 55kms)
Sightseeing through confluence of the Paro and Thimpu Rivers to Simtokha Dzong which now houses the Institute for Language and Culture Studies. Also visit National Memorial Chorten, Trashichhoedzong. Overnight in Thimphu.
To Punakha (by road – 75kms)
Visit the National Library and the Institute for Zorig Chusum. Make your way via Dochu-la Pass (3,088m), from where you can view the peaks of Masagang (7158m), Tsendagang (6960m), Terigang (7060m), Jejegangphugang (7158m), Kangphugang (7170m), Zongphugang (7060m) and the highest of all - Gangkar Puensum (7497m). Overnight in Punakha.
Punakha to Wangduephodrang and Gangtey (by road – 70kms)
Visit Punakha Dzong, strategically located at the junction of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu Rivers. Drive to Wangduephodrang then continue through dense forests of oak and rhododendron en-route to Gangtey (Phobjikha).
Take an evening walk around Gangtey village and visit Gangtey Gompa, the only Nyingmapa monastery in this region.
Gangtey to Trongsa (by road – 120kms)
Explore the Phobjikha valley. After lunch, drive to Trongsa via Pele-la Pass (3300m), the traditional boundary between east and west. Visit Chendbji Chorten.
Overnight in Trongsa.
Trongsa to Bumthang (by road – 68kms)
Visit Trongsa Dzong. After lunch, you will be driven over the Yutong-la Pass (3400m), then down through coniferous forest into the widely cultivated Chumey Valley.
You will be accommodated in Bumthang for 2 nights.
Bumthang Sightseeing
Visit Kurje Lhakhang, Jambey Lhakhang, Tamshing Lhakhang, and Jakar Dzong.
In the afternoon stroll in the village and visit the little handicrafts shop at the entrance to the town.
Enjoy refreshments at a local restaurant.
Bumthang to Wangduephodrang (by road – 190kms)
After visiting Bumthang’s market, you set off via Trongsa where you take lunch, then drive on to Wangduephodrang where you stay overnight.
Wangduephodrang to Paro (by road – 150km)
Drive back to Paro where you will be accommodated for a stay of 1 night. After lunch, drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress.
Departure from Paro
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport where your trip will come to an end.
