About Masjid Al Qiblatayn

The Masjid Al- Qiblatayn is one of the most historically significant Medina tourist attractions as here the Prophet commanded to change the Qibla’s direction from Jerusalem to Makkah. This Mosque of two Qiblas Was built by Sawad bin Ghanam bin Kaab during the Hijra’s second year and has been relevant to the Muslims since.

It was considered to be a unique mosque as it consisted of two prayer niches called mihrabs until recently, and this is why it came to be known as Masjid Al-Qiblatayn. The old niche of prayer facing towards Jerusalem has been removed.

Those on their pilgrimage to Mecca pay a visit to this mosque not only because it is historically relevant but is also one of the earliest mosques in Islam’s history. It is open 24 hours a day and can be visited by children, senior guests, young adults, and adults.
