Yala Tour: Temple Quest Overview

Trip Location: Hambantota

Yala is brimmed with historic temples including Tissamaharama, Sithulpawwa, Kirinda, and Katharagama. Join this tour to visit all these temples which will be very much worth to learn rituals, beliefs and cultural elements of southern Sri Lanka. You will be amazed by some of the architectures and paintings in these historical temples!

About the tour:
-You will be picked up from your hotel and drive to visit Tissamaharama temple, which is one of the major monasteries in Sri Lanka that enshrined the largest stupa in the Southern region of the country. 
-Now, you will be moved to Kirinda Vihara Maha Devi Temple which was built by King Kavantissa, located in Southern Sri Lanka. 
-After Kirinda, you will drive to Tissamaharama. As you reach there, enjoy your picnic lunch by a lake while admiring the picturesque views around you.
-After having lunch, visit Sithulpawwa which is an ancient Buddhist monastery, dating back to the 2nd century B.C. Now head to your final stop- Kataragama from where you will be taken to visit Kiri Vehera. is an ancient stupa that dates back to 06th century B.C and believed to be built by King Mahasena. It thought that this has been built in the ground where Lord Buddha meditated.
-When finished visiting Kiri Vehera, you will be moved to Kataragama Devala. It is a multi-religious temple complex, dedicated to God Kataragama. 
-As the tour concludes, you will be dropped off to your hotel. 

Timings: 8:00 am - 7:30 pm 
Time duration: 11.5 hours

Yala Tour: Temple Quest Itinerary

  • Day 1 -

    08:00 am: You will be picked up from your hotel in selected cities (Yala/Tissamaharama/Hambantota) and then moved to visit Tissamaharama temple.

    08:30 am: Arrive Tissamaharama Raja Maha Viharaya.

    09:30 am: When finished exploring the Tissa Vihara, you will be moved to Kirinda.

    10:00 am: Arrive Kirinda and start to explore Kirinda Vihara Maha Devi Temple.

    11:30 am: Leave Kirinda and then you will be moved to Tissamaharama.

    12:00 pm: Once arrived Tissamaharama, have your picnic lunch by a lake enjoying the picturesque views around you.

    02:30 pm: Arrive Sithulpawwa.

    05:00 pm: Arrive Kataragama and you will be taken to visit Kiri Vehera.

    06:00 pm: When finished visiting Kiri Vehera, you will be moved to Kataragama Devala.

    06:45 pm: Leave Kataragama Devala and transfer back to your hotel.

    07:30 pm: Drop-off in your preferred location in Yala.
