The Roopkund trek experience was amazing. It was in fact great. We liked the whole trek, and it was something that I would never forget. The trek was quite tedious to say the least. However, the beauty of the nature overpowers the toughness of the trek, we had a great time.

About the Destinations:

A trek to Mystery Lake of Uttarakhand i.e. Roopkund Lake is a must-do for an avid trekker! Battling several adversities common to the Himalayas, this water body perched in the laps of the snow clad Mt. Trishul is situated at an altitude of 16,499ft.

Most attractive for the human skeletons lying at the bottom of the lake, which are distinctly visible when the snow melts, the lake is swarmed by plenitude of visitors.

The route along this trek is a fascinating journey of discovering the most pristine of Himalayan contribution of oak and blooming rhododendron forests. A moderate trek, the trek trails through mountainous rivers, enthralling ridges, lush forests and scenic meadows.

Roopkund Trek Altitude: 5,029m

For years I have been dreaming about doing this trek to visit the haunting Skeletal Lake and finally this year i got the chance to do so, thanks to Thrillophilia. It was such a magical journey for me and my friends. We all were challenged to walk up the mountains but had a blast while doing so. And not to forget, the superb views of the peaks were amazing. The moment I was gazing the world from more than 15,000ft can be hardly described in words. As if the entire world is wearing the white colour and is all prepared to allure you to conquer them. You can hardly wait to complete this trek. Though difficult, it is totally worth. The natural beauty is the add-on of this trek and on reaching the lake, you will never wish to come back for sure. Lovely and purely enthralling trek!

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. What is the best time to go?

Roopkund can be visited either during May-June period – that is right before the onset of monsoon or during August-September which is just after monsoon has ended. During the May-June window, the Roopkund Lake is usually thawed and the surroundings (bugyals) are lush green. But you may be able to spot a few skeletons which will chill you to the bone! 8. Will there be porters to carry my luggage?

      Yes, at an extra cost.

    9. Which type of shoes should I carry?

There are many kinds of shoes you can try out for trekking but they can be broadly classified into three types – • Expedition boots These are designed for challenging treks and glacial traverses. Their USP is that they last longer – usually more than ten days. Their outsoles are thicker and more aggressive and the insole has a padding which actually feels very soft. • Trek Boots These are hiking boots which have added support for the feet and ankles. Usually, their upper portions are made of suede or leather. They are especially good for the rough terrain – especially if you are prone to slipping and twisting your ankle during the hike. • Plain hike shoes These look a lot like trail running shoes. They have flexible soles and they are really light weight. So if you are planning to have a short trek in Roopkund, then go for these. They are good for dry terrain and a warm weather. Maybe you can carry them during the pre-monsoon trekking season. Pick any of these three shoes depending

    10. How cold does it really get on the trek?

It gets a little bit cold during the trek if you are visiting during the September schedule. During the May to June period, the temperatures vary between 15 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius and at night it tends to get between 7C to -2C. So it gets minus temperatures at night even during summers. If you are visiting during the August to October period, then expect a variation of 15C to 10C during the day time.
