Best Sightseeing Tours in Haridwar

Haridwar is a holy city located in the state of Uttarakhand in India. Surrounded by the mighty Himalayas and with the River Ganges meandering through the city, Haridwar is regarded as the doorway to heaven. Every year millions of pilgrims visit Haridwar to bathe in the holy waters of the Ganges and the holy Ghat of Har-Ki-Pauri is revered for its spectacular show of the Sandhya Arati – where every evening lakhs of people gather around Ganges to see the temple chieftains offering prayers to the holy river. The river gets illuminated by hundreds of diyas or lamps and is an invigorating sight to experience. Pilgrims visit Haridwar to pay patronage to the temples of Chandi Devi and Mansa devi located at a hilltop a little distance from the main city. The temples are a major tourist hotspot and one can reach the temples via cable car rides operated from Haridwar itself.

The town of Haridwar still retain a beautiful charm where street hawkers sell everything starting from noodles to momos, thukpas to pasta, but everything that you get in this city are strictly vegetarian. The main streets are lined with hordes of old ashrams and little shops selling religious sculptures, curios and souvenirs. Haridwar does not restrict itself to its religious offerings, the town is a gateway to major hill stations in Uttarakhand like Rishikesh, Dehradun and Mussourie. Haridwar is also the base to many important treks around the region like the Chopta-Tunganath Trek, Har-ki-Dun Trek, Roopkund Trek, Chopta Chandrashila Deoriatal Trek, Dayara Bugyal Trek and many more prominent treks. During the months of May to October is the Yatra period of the city when thousands of Shiva devotees, known as Kanwarias, head to Haridwar to pay their homage.

Mansa Devi Temple

Manasa Devi Temple seems to have a significant space among the minds of the devotees of Shakti, the goddess this temple is dedicated to. Perched on the top of Bilwa Parvat on the Sivalik Hills, the temple offers a splendid view of the mighty Ganges and the holy city of Haridwar. Rather than being a pilgrim centre, the temple makes its value higher among the adventure seekers as well because, the temple is accessible either only by trekking the high altitude or taking the recently established rope way. Chandi Devi Temple located very close to this shrine attracts a large number of devotees everyday as there is a belief that the two forms of Goddess Parvati, Mansa and Chandi stay close to each other.

Over 32 rides steal the hearts of anyone who visits the park, be it children or adults; both the water based rides and land rides create fun in a peak level.

Har Ki Pauri

It is just marvelous to have the views of Har Ki Pauri, a famous ghat on the banks of the Ganges in Haridwar, especially in the evening, lit by thousands of lamps along with the glittering mountains in the backdrop. The name Har ki Pauri means the steps of Lord Shiva and the ghat witnesses many different festivities including the majestic Kumbh Mela in every 12 years, Ardh Kumbhmela in every 6 years. Thousands of devotees and pilgrims offering prayers here are an unusually usual sight every day. The Ganga Aarti happening in the evenings is very special to the pilgrims coming over, the lights are floated on the holy water as an offering to the lord. Being such an auspicious location, Har Ki Pauri brings forth high spirituality and refreshing attitude which in turn make the devotees keep attracted to the place again and again.

Tunganath is the highest temple of Garwal. While I was on this trekking, I witnessed the pristine clear view of majestic peaks like the Panchchuli, Nanda Devi, Nilkanth and even Kedarnath. Chopta is too underrated. It even gives a beautiful and picturesque view of the whole Himalayas. I guess the early spring season is the right season to trek. The Rhododendron forest actually glows red as the flowers bloom during the spring. It was a very nice trek. It starts and ends in Haridwar. I had a great time. WOW, is an understatement to explain how awesome this trek was.

A trek to the valley of flowers was something I have been looking forward to do for a long time. Finally, it happened in this July. I am a regular trekker, but Valley of Flowers was a new experience apart from every other trekking expeditions I have done. I went alone there. The most important thing I noticed here is the number of people who come to visit the valley. There were old age people also who were more energetic than the youngsters. Bikers were also there, mostly Royal Enfiled riders. I did not book through any tour operator but alone. I heard that going with a guide will help us very much to know more about the place but still I decided to go alone and I planned it for one week. Hence I visited some other places in the Himalayas. From different websites I understood the things to be taken during the tour. July was not that cold and the snow cover was comparatively less. Yet the wind was slightly cold so that I had to wear jackets throughout. Valley of Flowers was really beautiful. I have not seen so many flowers as in the pictures of it found somewhere online yet there were a lot of meadows with different flowers. The surrounding was actually soothing. I took hundreds of photos in my mobile phone. The names of flowers I saw there were unknown to me but I enjoyed the beauty very well. Since I have gone in my bike, some portions were difficult for me to cross but still I sought help from some of the people I met on the road to get the correct direction. I went to Leh also after the trip. But I got to know that many of the troupes coming to visit the Valley of Flowers seek the help of different tour organizers to make the tour easy. I am also thinking to do an extensive Himalayan trip next time with the help of some tour organizers. Also, I recommend Valley of Flowers from the bottom of my hearts to everyone.

No words to comment about the Valley of flowers. Except there was a situation when the tour was postponed the first time I booked, everything else regarding this trip was good. The group we joined was helpful. We shared water and food with each other. I found the food provided by the service providers not enough to conquer the challenges in front of us. Many of the times, we ate Maggi noodles which do not provide any nutrient. But we carried biscuits and energy bars. So, we were feeling better at the end of each day. To be true, Valley of Flowers is a must visit. During the season, we can see a lot of flowers even though the names are not familiar. Different colours will be all over the valley without showing the greenery. One of my friends who is a photographer clicked thousand photos I think. The tour organizers had one back up vehicle coming behind the trekking group. Anyway, continuously we could not climb the altitudes. We had to take several breaks in between. The seven day trip was full of energetic climbs and camping was also nice. Maggi, eggs, tea, rice and roti, dal etc were the food items provided by the service providers. At night, it was so cold and many of the team members fell sick and had to take medicines to continue the trip. Boots, jackets, warm clothes, altitude sickness preventive medicines etc should be carried any time you visit the Himalayas. And be fit before you head out to do trekking otherwise, you will be really tired. If you plan the trip according to your budget and time, Valley of Flowers trek can be the best team trip.

The trek to the valley of flowers was my first in the Himalayas although I had trekked a lot in the Western ghats. Overall it was easy as there was a well laid out path and lots of fellow trekkers of all ages although there were some minor problems in breathing and due to rain. The support provided by the organizers Hike to Himalayas was excellent. They advised on the outfits needed like shoes, ponchos and helped people shop for the missing items. The support provided by the guides was wonderful and we never felt lost or overcome by the situations. During our return from Badrinath to Joshimath, the road was blocked by landslide and we were forced to trek over a hill to reach the other side where vehicles were waiting for us. The only suggestion for improvement is to pre-allot the rooms at the hotels so that check-in formalities can be simplified. Also, the Himalaya Hotel at Ghangria may do well by cleaning the rooms in the evening. Overall, I was glad that I used their services rather than doing it on my own and it was worth it. Going through them also gave us several companions and our group was able to enjoy better together whereas going on our own would have been lonely and boring. The scenic views of the Himalayas and the valley of flowers were breathtaking. Some tourists complained that it was nothing like the unrealistic photoshopped images that you see on the internet/thrillophilia like advertisements but it is not the fault of the Himalayas !!.

This is a perfect trip for someone who is looking to spend good quality time, who wants to see a mix of Glaciers and lush green vegetation. It indeed is my guarantee that people will make a lifetime memories here. Valley of Flowers, Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath where the former one is a pristine beauty and the latter ones are holy shrines. All these with a mix of happiness, adventure and surprise filled tour makes it really a complete trip. And with the responsible and experienced guides, nice and decent hotel accommodation makes it worth each penny you pay towards the trip. People have to understand the fact that being a place where every facility cannot be available, we have to adjust with whatever is available because of lack of transportation facilities from GovindGhat to Ghangria. But still it was better than what i have expected atleast.

I could not expect more than what I got in this trek. The panoramic views of the Himalayan range was the best reward for me as well as the entire group. Nanda Devi peak was also an amazing experience. Talking about the trekking route, they are pretty easy and can be accessed by almost everyone. Pure fun, delight and excitement are guaranteed in this trek.
