Trekking in Bheemeshwari

Bheemeshwari is bounded by beautiful valleys and a number of rivers and streams crisscross the undulating terrain. It is a perfect blend of Adventure Sports, adrenalin rush, natural splendours. The surrounding forest area houses a large number of Indian Wildlife Species. While trekking, if you are lucky enough, you can spot deer.

Trekking in Bheemeshwari

There are a number of wildlife trekking trail available for both beginners and professionals. The treks are divided into three categories—easy, medium, and tough depending on the distance from 4 km to 30 km. On the trekking trail, you cross piquant hamlets, verdant neighbouring hills, wildlife and plants used in Ayurveda.

From Bheemeshwari, one can trek to Chellurehill, Doddamkali, and Galibore. The trek to Chellurehill is an easy one and it’s a 7.5 km trekking trail. This trek also involves a boat ride and in the beginning of the trek, you have to cross the Cauvery River, and then pass through Chellure hills.

Doddamkali is 7 km away from Bheemeshwari and is located deep in the forest, while Galibore is 16 km from Bheemeshwari and in the opposite direction of Doddamkali.

Doddamakkali Nature Camp: It is located 7 km upstream of Bheemeshwari. You can reach the rugged terrain by trekking from Bheemeshwari. Here, the majestic Cauvery River forms a pool which is ideal for water sports.

Galibore: Located 16 km away from Bheemeshwari, Galibore is surrounded by huge Terminalia Arjuna trees. The river cuts through in the front, which is bounded by hills on each side. One can spot herd of elephants near the bank of the river.

Bheemeshwari Wildlife Sanctuary: This sanctuary is located amidst the shimmering waterfalls of Mekedatu, Barachukki and Gaganachukki in Mandya district. Its natural habitat harbours Mahseer fish, and houses an incredible variety of wildlife. Cauvery Fishing Camp is nearby, which is a haven for anglers. The best time to visit Bheemeshwari National Park is December to March.

How to Reach:

From Bangalore: Take the national highway (NH) to reach Halagur Village via Kanakpura. Reaching the village, take the village road that takes you to Bheemeshwari via Muthati. The nearest airport and rail head is in Bangalore.
