Hampi is a place of historical significance and is one of the UNESCO Heritage Sites in India. It was the capital of the Vijaynagar kingdom during 13th to 16th century AD. Hampi houses giant temples, palaces, forts, monolithic structures, ancient monuments and their impressive ruins. A major part of the landscape is dotted with granite boulders or crags—ranging from 4 m to 60 m.
The place is a paradise for rock climbers, offering a number of both easy and challenging options to conquer. One can find Rock Climbing enthusiasts from different nationalities here, all trying to test their skills and enjoy the challenge offered.

Virupaksha Temple: Located at the western edge of Hampi, this temple is dedicated to a form of Vishnu, Virupaksha. Hemakuta Hill overlooks the temple from the South. The hill is dotted with ruins of Jain temples and a monolithic structure of Narasimha.
Vithala Temple: This temple is located east of Hampi bazaar, and the ruins of this beautiful temple are part of World Heritage. The outer pillars are known as “Musical Pillars” because they echo when somebody taps them. There is a magnificent chariot carved out of stone in this temple’s courtyard, and also it houses some of the most captivating sculptures.
Queen’s Bath: This large square structure is one of the most elaborate bath houses. It’s located south of Hazara Rama temple, which is another major attraction in Hampi. Queen’s Bath is famous for its exquisite interior which is in contrast to the simple exterior.
Hazara Rama Temple: The 15th century Hazara Rama Temple is built within a rectangular compound. The main feature of this temple is the delicately carved basalt pillars that show the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Here, you can also admire the sculptures that tell the main events from the Ramayana.

Hospet is called the gateway town to reach Hampi. Hospet is well-connected with a number of major cities of India via road and rail. From Bangalore, you can board the Hampi Express to reach Hospet. There are number of buses available from Bangalore for Hospet. You can also drive from Bangalore to Hampi. The nearest airport is located in Tornagallu which is in Sandur taluk, 32 km away from Hospet. Buses and taxis regularly run from Hospet to Hampi.
