Here’s How You Can Maintain Social Distancing On Your Trekking Trip

The COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed the trekking and camping dynamics all across the world. It is now more important than ever to consider and take care of your safety while you’re out in the wild. For that, the first thing to ensure is the adherence to social distancing on your trekking tours. Adherence to social distancing can drastically reduce contact in individuals and eventually minimize the risk of COVID-19 infections. 

Although, when on a trek, it can be quite tricky to stay socially distant from everyone at times. 1. Before You Leave

Go through the enhanced trekking guide and packing list provided by your operator thoroughly and ensure you understand all the social distancing measures to be followed throughout the trip. 

2. During Transit

  • Be it public transport or private transit vehicles of the trekking operators, always make sure you stay at least 2 metres apart from others when in a vehicle. You must also ensure that if there is a queue formation while boarding or deporting the bus, train or airplane, you must stand 2 m away from the next person to stay safe.
  • Try and travel only with your family or group of friends to the campsite to stay safe.

3. At Campsites

  • Once you reach the campsite, make sure to adhere to social distancing during check-in, in case there is a formation of a queue.
  • Make sure you stay distant from other people of the group throughout your stay and try to avoid social interaction. 

4. During The Trek

  • As you trek amidst the mountains with your group, make sure to maintain a distance of 2 m throughout the trip from others. This includes your fellow trekkers, trek leader and other staff. If you’re trekking alone, avoid coming in close contact with other people you come across during the trek.
  • If you feel sick at any point during the trek, make sure you inform your trek leader immediately and isolate yourself.
