This town has been instrumental in the freedom movement of India. The story goes like this – In the year 1938 on 25th April, a group of people gathered here to organise a Satyagraha. But the police disrupted the routine by open firing and killing 10 people. This place later came to be known as Jallianwala Bagh of South. There has been a memorial erected in the memory of the martyrs who lost their lives in the freedom struggle. Except the village in Kolar district, there are gold mines which are a treasure trove of gold. Gold mines are also one of the reasons why Kolar is known as the Golden Land of India. The best time to stop by here is in the months of January and December.
